Ancient Bulgarian Sanctuaries "Older" than Egyptian Pyramids

16 May 2007, Wednesday

Bulgarian scientist will try to prove their hypothesis that the rock sanctuaries of Tatul and Perperikon in the Eastern Rhodopi Mountains are more ancient than Egyptian pyramids.

To prove their hypothesis, the scientists will organize the biggest archaeology expedition in the country that will be situated near the southern town of Kardzhali. The top Bulgarian archaeologist Nikolay Ovcharov will lead the expedition.

The hypothesis of the rock sanctuaries' age was voiced some months ago by two Bulgarian historians. According to them the first cuts in the rocks there date back to the fifth millennium BC.

The archaeologists will seek evidence in the Orpheus sanctuary near Tatul, where previous expeditions have already uncovered a cultural layer date back to 20 century BC.

The excavations near Kardzhali will start on May 28 and will continue around 5 months. This daring initiative will cost more than BGN 200 000.

This does not affirm Sharpton's claim that "...white men were living in caves while we were building pyramids."

If he had said that, he’s crazy. The ancient Egyptians weren’t black. In fact, they too called people with darker skin than themselves their equivalent of ‘black’ - the Sudan. Ancient Egyptians, like their modern counterparts, were Semitic people, with brown to white skin- Arabs, or classified Caucasian. Egypt was also sort of a ‘melting pot’ and to claim that they were all black would be ridiculous.

According to them the first cuts in the rocks there date back to the fifth millennium BC. That’s not old enough.

The pyramids (along with the Sphinx) were built 12,500 years ago and inherited by three the 4th dynasty Egyptian pharaohs. Khufu, first on the scene, claimed the largest one for himself. His successor, Khafre, claimed the 2nd largest, and Menkaure got stuck with the itty bitty one.

They’ll have to establish some dates for the Gaza pyramids and the Sphinx as well as their own ruins. BTW, the Chinese might well have got their ancient culture from Egypt.

Before the Pyramids...
by Frederic Lontcho
April 28, 1999
In north-central Europe, especially Poland, Denmark, and Bohemia, there are similar long tumuli, perhaps a little more recent but historically and culturally similar. All these monuments were more or less oriented toward the east. They all seem to shelter individual burials or those with only a few tombs. In eastern Europe there was also an explosion of funerary ritual, but it takes another form. At Varna in Bulgaria, conspicuous display of wealth begins to reveal itself in the funerary objects accompanying the dead. Burial of precious gold objects, necklaces, bracelets, clothing, pottery, and flint may be markers of social status. In Brittany, monumental burials contain large axes imported from the Alps. The tombs at Passy, on the other hand, are extremely poor in offerings--a few ceramics, a few arrowheads, but nothing we would consider prestigious.

Weren’t there ‘Nubians’ depicted in Egyptian artwork? Where did they fit in?

Hmm, Nubians, from Nubia... the kingdom Egypt conquered... in present-day Sudan. BTW, Sudan:

The Sudan, from the Arabic bilâd as-sûdân “land of the Blacks”, is a geographic region in northern Africa, extending south of the Sahel, from Mali (also once known as French Sudan) into the country of Sudan. This region receives more rainfall than the Sahel, and is suitable to farming. South of the Sudan are the tropical forests.

This does not affirm Sharpton's claim that "...white men were living in caves while we were building pyramids."

Let alone the fact that Sharpton's ancestors were throwing spears when they were enslaved by those who built the pyramids.
