Should Jon Corzine Be Dead?
The Wall Street Journal ^ | May 25, 2007 | James Taranto

Does it really make sense for Corzine to assert that he "should be dead"? If he had worn a seat belt as he was supposed to, he would have lived. But he didn't wear a seat belt, and he lived anyway. Is everyone who has an accident while not wearing a seat belt supposed to die?

[Snip]

Also, the Bloomberg story notes that the state trooper driving the governor's car was going 91 miles an hour on the Garden State Parkway, which is at least 26 mph over the speed limit. Why does Corzine's spot focus on the dangers of not wearing a seat belt rather than speeding?

I’d give him points for this if his car hadn’t been clocked going over 70 mph on the way home from the hospital.

LOL ... You know NJ ... the rules are really just for the peasantry and don’t apply to his majesty.

Because, while he will now wear a seatbelt, he can foresee times that his majesty may need to be delivered somewhere at such speeds again.

There's a link to an article that mentions his speeding on the way home. Reply #41 on this thread...

This was a more a factor in this accident and the injuries suffered, than the seat belt factor.

Maybe he really is dead, and it’s only the supermarket tabloids that think he’s still alive.

A Political Ploy typical of the Leftist Politician diverting focus from meddlesome grandstanding in the Imus/Rutgers brouhaha.

Corzine was on his way to meet with Imus/Rutgers Team at the time to grab headlines.

Not wearing a seatbelt and now coming out as the learned victim of not wearing it is simply a ploy to remake himself as the good guy victim of misfortune. He learned his lesson well.

I’ve heard his ad so often that I’m beginning to wish.

As for seat belts, I think people drive much more recklessly than they used to because they think the seatbelt is protecting them.

This is an overtly political ad of which the pricey production and mass airing is undoubtedly being paid for by someone else.

A masterful stroke by the 'Rat Corzine to turn his personal lemon into lemonade.

The lumpen voters will avidly suck it up through the straw of ignorance.

It was all a publicity stunt for this weekend’s $30 million “Click it or ticket” campaign.
