BOSTON, May 31 (Reuters) - A female staff attorney at General Electric Co. (GE.N: Quote, Profile, Research sued her employer on Thursday, claiming that it underpays and underpromotes its women employees.
In papers prepared for filing in U.S. District Court in Connecticut, Lorene Schaefer charged GE, the world's second-largest company by market capitalization, with gender discrimination. The suit also names 13 GE officers and directors, including Chairman and Chief Executive Jeff Immelt.
Her suit, which is seeking class-action status, seeks $500 million in damages for a class of about 1,500 to 1,700 GE women workers, according her attorney, David Sanford of Sanford Wittels & Heisler LP.
"This lawsuit is designed to achieve systemic injunctive relief to change GE's discriminatory pay and promotions practices and policies," Schaefer, 43, charged in court papers.

Equal output should have equal compensation. That said, I think this lady has issues.
She might have a pretty strong case if GE is run like it used to be. I’m not a big fan of GE, but that said, I have always found them to be (executives) arrogant and somewhat hostile folks. Starts at the top and works its’ way down the management rungs, and it is every man for himself there.
GE issued a five-word statement:
"Get back in the kitchen!"
Make me a chicken pot pie, beeotch.
My husband worked at GE for 38 years[now retired] from the GE aprentice program to drafting manager. He was treated fairly no complaints from this GE family.
I heard a rumor that they fire the bottom 10% of their employees based on single year performance. You essentially have to reapply for your job every year and justify it based on your accomplishments.
It is most likely your hubby was always a “top performer” for them and I’m happy he enjoyed his work there. I’ve dealt with over 100 executives (at GE) through the years and wouldn’t give you two hoots in hell for more than 5 of them. Quite a few burned out from the pressure, and some were fired for poor performance. The track record for them isn’t all that it is cranked up to be, jus look at NBC for a negative example. GE doesn’t know what to do with that company and it is costing them some mighty big bucks too!
That would work out to a settlement of about $300K per employee if it were divided equally, but in a class action, the lawyers would get about $250 million or more, and the "harmed" employees will get coupons for discounts on light bulbs.....
