He comprehends it all right. It just seems to be against his political or personal self-interests in some way.

I think Fred can win. I think he is purposely waiting for something, some event or indication to run. I like Romney but I think the public will see him as too manufactured and to beholden to corporate interests. Funny thing is, he’s campaigning without spending money. His name is saturating the news and any money he raises after he enters can be used with more discretion because he will have more of it.

He has done his own research, which is quite available on this forum and doesn’t require that others hand feed him with demands of “convince me”.....

As a ‘younger’ person, I understand that looks have some importance in campaigns, but I think Fred’s honesty, and forthrightness overcome any disadvantage he may have in that area (no offense, Fred). I know for myself and my friends we are a little tired of all the rhetoric of ‘pretty-boy politicians’ anyway... Besides, I think most people realize that you don’t get wrinkles from sitting on your butt your whole life — you get wrinkles from working your butt off!

Good pics. I should’ve read further down before posting what I did in response. He doesn’t look bad at all in those pictures. I think EV looked for the worst picture he could find to try and make his point. Who among us doesn’t have a few of those? LOL [Kinda funny that all EV can think of is to try and impugn Fred based on looks...]

It looks like he attacked AGW in a recent “Fred Thompson Report” on ABC Radio. You can read about it here:

Well, you’re the one who posted about his looks on a thread about his position on illegal immigration... The reality is that the American public is looking for someone who speaks the truth, and Fred Thompson is that man.

I am starting to like Fred more and more. I am getting tired of his failure to officially affirm or definitively negate his candidacy; he is beginning to annoy me on this.

Surely you know he is running. It is well documented that if he announces prior to the airing of some programs he is under contract on, networks would have to offer "equal time" to other candidates. Those airings will be complete this month.

But for a guy who hasn't announced, he sure seems to be getting a lot of press, doesn't he? What would be the benefit of announcing today instead of in four weeks?

From the "Richmond Times-Dispatch"

Crowd cheers ex-Tenn. senator

This caught my eye at the end of the piece:

However, Thompson criticized congressional Democrats for failing to achieve consensus on the war in Iraq. He said Democrats seem content to allow the war to continue, hoping they will benefit politically if voters continue to weary of the conflict.

Hey, leave George Kennedy out of this. He was great in Cool Hand Luke and the Naked Gun movies! :)

And of course the classic Irwin Allen Airport movies. Airport I thru XXXVI if I recall correctly.

Joe Patroni: You chickened out on me! I told you I wanted all the power you got!
Capt. Benson: Full throttle and this plane would be standing on its nose.
Joe Patroni: You might fly these things but I take them apart and put them back together again. If you had any guts we'd be on the runway by now.
Capt. Benson: You felt it vibrating? Another 10 seconds and we'd have had structural damage.
Joe Patroni: Who do ya think you're talking to, some kid that fixes bicycles? I know every inch of the 707! Take the wings off this and you could use it as a TANK! This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.

Joe Patroni: Aww, a tractor-trailer jack-knifed and flipped over. It’s laying on its side like a drunken dinosaur.

Fred’s waiting for formal announcement after the 2Q FEC reports is extremely wise. I’m sure you can imagine what negative headlines would be spun against him if he were to announce now and only have a couple of weeks to fundraise and then have to disclose those numbers. The media wouldn’t provide any context of his new candidacy and would exploit it as a poor performance.

As is, he’s getting LOTS of publicity without spending a nickle.

“Former Sen. Fred Thompson yesterday said there is a giant disconnect between voters and politicians in Washington and that the immigration bill is the chief reason.”

The immigration bill is a symptom, not a cause.

But I support Thompson (Fred) or Hunter.
