GOP wives are a pol’s breast friend: Front-runners get ample attention on the front lines
boston herald.com ^ | 6/03/07 | Margery Eagan

Does the heaving bosom play well among Bible Belt Republicans? Among New Hampshire primary voters?

How else to explain, as debate week begins, the bursting out all over by GOP front-runners’ wives? What’s with this ample - and aging - display of decolletage?

Mrs. John McCain, 52, just gave Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren an at-home tour wearing this tight, bubble-gum-pink wraparound shirt cut to her sternum. Three inches of cleavage. Poor Greta, the consummate professional in blue blazer and yellow button-down, didn’t know where to look.

Meanwhile nearly half the pictures you see of Judy Nathan, aka Mrs. Giuliani, also 52, are very bosomy. Is this supposed to convince those wondering about Rudy - you know, after he bunked with the gay guys post divorce #2 - that he’s not just A Big Hetero but A Big Hetero Who Loves Big Hetero Breasts?

Flashed around the country Thursday was yet another full cleavage shot of Fred Thompson’s child wife looking almost as well-endowed as Alex Rodriguez’s stripper/pole-dancer girlfriend. “That was quite a dress,” said one GOP analyst, breathless.

Perhaps Fred’s wife “Jeri” - yes, with an “i” - helps Fred with AARP, Viagra-ed up men: “You still got it goin’, Fred, you dirty dog.”

Doubt it helps him with women. Let’s face it, we’re all thinking the same thing: Fred’s 64. He’s really drooping. She’s 40, and not. Next to her, he looks 110.

“You wouldn’t see any Bush boobs,” says my GOP guy.

When standing next to his wife, Kucinich looks even more like the world’s greatest dork.

I have two words, Ms. Eagan: Alexandra Kerry.

Clearly, I can’t speak for all women. Let’s say this. I am over 50 and I don’t give a rat’s rump how old his wife is.
He was divorced quite some time before marrying her.

Let’s move on to something with substance. Let’s focus on his positions on issues.

Good for Dennis and good for Fred. Dunno why it is only "pro family values" if the wife is a frumpy battle-axe.

By the way, did anyone have the endurance to read down to the bottom of the article, where the author thinks that it's just thrilling that Dennis Kuchinich married someone 31 years younger than he is?

lol. I sure didn't.

JUST SENT THE FOLLOWING TO THE AUTHOR

Ms. Eagan,

I think our country is facing much larger, pressing and grave issues than the ages and breast sizes of candidates’ wives.

What is a female writer and commentator like you doing writing such mental garbage? You have set back the cause of women by your foolish chatter. You ought to be ashamed.

Please join the responsible adults in this country and talk about something important. If you can’t, please shut up.

Regards,

Let’s move on to something with substance.

Well believe it or not, it is an issue of substance. Seems to me it matters to a lot of voters who might be first lady. I sure do recall quite a lot of time spent on Teresa Heinz Kerry last time around. It matters. And sometimes the circumstances of a person's divorce (e.g., Guliani, Newt) tells you something about the character of the man. I'm not saying Fred did anything wrong. I'm just saying it's a fair question. That's not even debatable. I seriously doubt you were complaining about ppl trashing Teresa Heinz Kerry back in 04. It's politics, a game that has only a little to do with substance.

Women might be turned off.

Yeah those women have a hard time voting based on reason or rational thought.

I’d like to note that this thread would have been completely useless without pictures. As it is...we still need more. For, uh, the education and edification of the audience.

We need to rethink that whole 19th amendment thing.

I'm serious.

Perhaps Fred’s wife “Jeri” - yes, with an “i” - helps Fred with AARP, Viagra-ed up men: “You still got it goin’, Fred, you dirty dog.”

Mrrrrowl! Written like a woman with so many crow's feet, her face looks like the dance floor of a Parakeet Disco.

OK, that was just as catty as what she wrote, and to be fair, while she pales in comparison to Jeri Thompson (and seems painfully aware of it), she's no Helen Thomas. But as can be seen in the photo below, she's not averse to using her femininity to her advantage. The legs and half-covered thigh you see in this photo belong to Ms. Eagan, who is part of an event for the radio station at which she shares a microphone. She's watching Bill O'Reilly do what he does best. Far right is Sean Hannity.

Maybe the issue isn't skin per se, it's only breasts, something that Ms. Eagan perhaps doesn't enjoy being reminded that she has in short supply. (Hey, SHE started it.)

Beyond the naked jealousy, what's more bothersome to me is the way she gives Dennis Kucinich's redheaded trophy a pass:

The only candidate who could be helped were his wife to show some cleavage is Dennis Kucinich, the Democrat who looks like a cross between Alfred E. Neuman and My Favorite Martian. Somehow, much to worldwide amazement, he managed to snare as bride No. 3 this 6-foot-tall, redheaded beauty 31 years his junior. It makes one pause: Did we underestimate Kucinich’s charms? What does she see that we missed?
Why did she resist inferring that long-legged Liz is shown off to set tongues to wagging about whether Dennis is a menace behind closed doors?

Nawwwww...no leftist bias here.

My dad was 41 when he married my mom, who was 23. He WAS too old for her but they had four foxy kids (smile) and they stayed married.

That’s a good life, IMO (or about as near as it gets). ...better than those of most moguls and movie stars who do the same.
