Great news.

Please don’t give up until this is absolutely certain. There are rumors from FAIR that a small select committee is working on a set of amendments to replace the current ones and might try again tomorrow. While I hope this is untrue, we need to be certain before celebrating too prematurely.

This being said, it is worth acknowledging the tremendous efforts of FReepers, so many of whom have been tireless champions of this amnesty bill’s defeat. Kudos also to Kristinn for conveying the feelings of FReepers to RNC.

Let us also not forget the fabulous efforts of Sen. Jeff Sessions, a giant among pigmies in the US Senate. I was about to send him a case of Red Bull in case he was getting ready for a fillibuster :)

Reid has been saying he’ll pull the bill if there’s no cloture. I know he lies but this should be the end of it.

Yeah, but remember Reid said that about the FIRST cloture vote earlier today. He’s a LIAR. I don’t think he wants to stop debate. I think he wants to keep this alive, no matter how many bad amendments are added, so that they can finegle this through next week . . . or the week after.

It's a "no" on cloture, meaning a "no" to end debate. This is very good because Ried said he would table the bill if he did not get a cloture vote today. There's some chance he might reneg and keep debate going, thereby opening the door for some way to salvage the bill in the coming days, but I doubt it. If he doesn't get a colture vote, he'll move the Senate on to some other item on the agenda. That's what he said he'd do, and he'd look like a fool if he didn't.

Of course, this won't prevent the treason lobby from bringing the bill up for consideration again later. So until the next election, we have to be on guard.

You’re right - the bill is not yet dead. I have repeated some rumors re: a new set of “compromise” amendments in my post #41 upthread. Might only be a rumor; i true though, it means this bill might still have some life in it.

As another FReeper pointed out, we shouldn't’t allow this bill to rise like a phoenix sometime tomorrow.

Whether amnesty is dead is open for debate. Whether Jorge Bush and the Senate RINOs have killed the Republican party is not.
