Baloney. They said the same thing about the Republicans in 1974, only six years before one of the greatest Republicans in history became president. And, to be fair, people were absolutely convinced the Dems were finished in 1865, and again around 2002.

National political parties in the current form have not essentially changed in 147 years, and the GOP will be back, stronger than ever with new faces and new blood.

My preference would be that they do nothing.

And that the immigration becomes an issue in the '08 presidential election.

A strong position on the immigration issue could be the driving force behind a conservative sweep.
