From Nokia to Nessun Dorma(If you love Italian opera, you are in for a TREAT!)

An opera-singing mobile phone salesman has wowed judges on the UK version of hit talent show Australia's Got Talent.

Britain's Got Talent judges, including American Idol judge Simon Cowell, were left dumbfounded as Paul Potts hit the stage to belt out one of the series' most memorable performances made famous by tenor Luciano Pavarotti.

The 36-year-old sang Nessun Dorma and received a standing ovation from the 2,000-strong audience at Cardiff’s Millennium Centre in Wales.

The winning act from the show will perform for the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance and win $A250,000.

Mr Potts, who has battled a burst appendix, tumour on his adrenal gland and shattered collarbone after being knocked off his bike, told a local paper he was so well received because people weren't expecting much from him.

"I don't think they were expecting very much. I'm a bit short and overweight and had a cheap old suit on and the hairdresser had used a number two on my hair instead of a four so it made me look a bit bald," he candidly said.

"But when I sang, I made sure I looked at the judges and I saw Simon Cowell's jaw drop. I knew then I must have done alright."

The Carphone Warehouse manager and keen opera lover will now go on to the next stage of the competition.

( I mean I can’t hit some of the high notes — but a croak is better than no notes at all )

Thanks for the ping. He is just awesome. I listen to and love Pavarotti as well as Mario Lanzo and I was sure it was a lip-sync. He should go far—I hope so. If anyone sees any more one this fellow I hope they post it. Thanks.

Goosebumps. I’m usually not really a friend of opera, but this was just wonderful. I wasn’t expecting anything special or even remotely good upon seeing him... but then his voice blew away the audience.

If that performance doesn’t give one goosebumps they better check their pulse.
The man has a wonderful voice.

God bless him....God already has. LOL

I hope he beats ‘em all!

I loved it! I am a Puccini opera buff, but love this song and he was wonderful to walk in off the street and blow them away.

It seldom happens, but his amazing voice brought me to tears. I’m certain we shall hear more of him............I hope.

Now, I need to rub away some of these goosebumps.

My favorite part is how the audience laughed at him when he said he was going to sing opera. Then he showed ‘em!

Plus the female judge seemed genuinely moved.

Thanks Kelly.

Believe it or not, I first saw this while slumming on the dark side at DU. They also posted this and we have found something that freepers and the DU crowd can agree on: THIS GUY IS GREAT!

I thought exactly the same thing-———A touch of Pavarotti, a touch of Mario Lanza. It was just wonderful!
