Senators Revive Amnesty Bill
Washington Post ^ | 6-15-07 | parousia

WASHINGTON -- Architects of a revived immigration compromise are directing an intense behind-the-scenes bargaining effort to round up enough votes among wavering Republicans to keep it alive. Senate leaders' announcement Thursday that they would allow the bill a second chance came after getting assurances from key negotiators that they could produce enough support to steer the measure through a procedural minefield, including attempts by conservatives to block it. The fragile compromise would grant millions of illegal immigrants lawful status while tightening border security and creating new measures for weeding out illegal workers at job sites. Championed by President Bush, it has sparked an outcry among conservatives who regard it as amnesty for lawbreakers. An appearance by Bush on Capitol Hill this week to prod action on the measure _ and his subsequent OK to immediately pumping a new $4.4 billion into border security _ helped set the stage for its resurrection. But it was raw trolling for votes by key Republicans and Democrats that made the difference, said lawmakers and senior officials involved in the talks. The coalition drew up a tentative list of 22 amendments _ divided equally between the two parties _ whose consideration would give a handful of Republicans the comfort they needed to allow the bill to go forward. That would take 60 votes _ a threshold the bill missed by 15 last week, when just seven Republicans backed ending debate and moving to complete the bill. Allowing votes on the proposals "has as its goal bringing more people on board," Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a lead Republican negotiator, said in an interview Friday.

Lindsay Graham says he is going to give wavering Republicans input that will make senators feel better," his goal is to bring more people aboard (not to secure the border). We need to fight and weed out of the swamp any self-serving senators who ignore the pleas of their constituents not to force this flawed immigration (Amnesty) bill on the country. Very disturbing that Trent Lott said “Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem.” What veiled threat is that? Talk radio as it stands now consists of people exercising their rights to free speech. The hosts and callers are all speaking out on issues of the day, and they are fired up about a bill that gives amnesty to 12-20 million people who entered our country by breaking our laws. We are fighting for the future of our country. The only media forum we have is on talk radio and the blogs...not TV, not the liberal broadcast anchormen, women in mainstream media who shape the news. When people try to destroy this avenue of free speech, we have to fight for that right. When people attack our country, whether externally or internally repress those who stand for the rule of law, justice, opportunity, waiting in line...we have every right to speak out. Lindsay Graham isn’t a leader, but a back bencher taking orders from Bush and Ted Kennedy...poking people in the eye when you have a 6 year term is not courage at all. People of S.C. need to keep that in mind, as well as the people in PA keep Arlen Spectar in mind, and MS Trent Lott. They resent their constituents, and they do business in a thuggish way, threatening or deriding those who disagree with them...calling us “bigots, or “bad Americans” if we fight against this Amnesty bill that they pretend is the only way we can have a secure and safe America. These are dictatorial methods of control by those who sit in the seats of power. These are not leaders who respect those who voted them into the privileged positions they hold..

Deborah Burlingame, whose brother died on AA flight 77, said the staff of these legislators are being inundated with calls and feeling the pressure of citizens angry that they aren’t being heard. So get the phones ringing on Monday morning. We can win if we will keep up the pressure. You can find the numbers of the key senators at NUMBERS USA.com and send free faxes. DO IT Monday – we still have a voice in this.

This bill is not going to fix the border, those who have read it carefully – Deborah, Hugh Hewitt, Mark Levin, Shawn Hannity can point out many loopholes. There will never be a completed fence once the illegals are given citizenship (theoretically after 48 hours of a security check). INS hasn’t been successful finding millions of illegals in our country 6 years after 9-11, so how will they get the manpower and ability to find 13-20 million ‘hiding in the shadows’ now before giving them citizenship? It’s impossible and they know it! We’re being toyed with like errant school boys who get out of line.

many congressmen are up for re-election....

And those that support this monstrosity will be looking for new jobs. The Senators that supported it will be next on the unemployment line.

Bush may go down in history as a traitor, but he won't care, he'll be living the high life in Paraguay.

I emailed all the top staffers of Senators with one email at the same time.

I said in my email that they shouldn't pass this Amnesty bill because it will turn the U.S.A. into a 3rd world socialist hell hole
like Venezuela or Mexico with the same poverty, loss of jobs, oppression, starvation and diseases that always are inherently part of a socialist state.

They want to turn the U.S.A into a socialist Venezuela or a 3rd world country:

From the Washington Times:Bill permits 193 million more aliens

I just copied each paragraph block of emails and pasted it to my yahoo email "to:" box, one of those paragraph blocks of emails at a time.

And it worked. If your email says too many in the to: field just cut a few names off. But it will probably be short enough.

So this POS legislation proves beyond a shodow of a doubt that our government truly no longer serves by the consent of the governed.

According to the Founders, we now have the right to abolish said government.

You bring the guillotines, I'll bring the pikes!

And now I can't believe I supported (sometimes violently) that piece of globalist sh*t in 2000 and 2004.

I was hoodwinked by Bush Inc. and Karl Rove.

Never again, never again.

It’s not just republicans that are steamed; it’s democrats too. It’s a lot of people. Interesting that we now have a united interest. I hope we get rid of all the jerks up in Congress. We don’t need them. We don’t need that President or the people he fronts for.

I also say stop paying your taxes. With no money; they can’t operate. It’s the only way that I know of.

Too many? Because each House seat is a 2-year term, ALL 435 members of the House of Representatives are up for re-election in 2008. We’ve got to hold their feet to the fire. No shamnesty!

...I would fully support such a measure if I thought it could work, which it would’nt. It would be like standing at the edge of the pool promising each other you’ll jump in on the count of 3. Then you jump in and your friend is standing there.
