It's the backlogs, stupid!
Over the last several years, I've noted the following immigration backlogs that continue to plague our homeland security system:
*The backlog of 600,000-plus fugitive deportee cases.
*The backlog of 4 million immigration applications of all kinds.
*The backlog of an estimated 100,000 FBI background checks for legal immigrant applicants.
*The disappearance of 111,000 citizenship applications.
The Washington Post reports today that those mounds of unprocessed paperwork continue to grow. Hundreds of thousands of immigrants who came here legally are waiting for FBI background checks that must be obtained before they can become naturalized:
We don’t need more immigration laws that won’t be enforced. We need to strictly enforce the existing immigration laws!
This is where the problem is. I’m aware of a fine man who applied FOUR YEARS AGO. His application is still being processed.
Ping! BUMP
eeevil conservative,
I just read your speech from yesterday. Wish I had been able to be there. Might even be worth a vanity post here ;)
I’m sure you read Malkin, but thought you could use this as more ammo.
Knowing Dave though, he'll vote for it.
Grrr....
What country is he applying from and what kind of visa? I am starting the process with someone I know.
THEY CAN’T EVEN KEEP UP WITH PASSPORT APPLICATIONS.
WHAT A JOKE!
Thank you very much for the ping!
YOU ROCK!
I have two stepsons from Russia. Both applied for residency (I-151), paid their $485 fees (each) with the ICE Dallas Office of Rapid Adjustment (DORA). One was 17 the other 18 when they applied. This office promised a 90-day turn-around. It has now been two YEARS and still no word. The only answer I get from ICE is that their files have been pulled and “background” checks are pending with the FBI and that Immigration has no authority over the FBI. Even my useless congresscritter (Rep. Dr. Michel Burgess) got the same response when I sent a letter requesting his help. His office, too, responds that he has no authority over the FBI and can do nothing.
Does the FBI have email yet, or are they still using quill pens?
I attend a Slovak parish. The people back home earn about 5000.00 a year. They pay 200.00 for visas to get here. Whether they get one or not, they lose the 200.00.
Our dance teacher is about to lose his visa. He could easily fly into Windsor’s airport and swim across the river by Lake Erie Metropark (about 1000 feet). But he is doing it right and not cheating the system. We expect he will be gone by next month.
Exactly. But this is all "slight of hand". They have every intention of enforcing the new laws JUST LIKE the old laws.
While I agree with your thinking on what needs to happen to illegals, I disagree about the need for additional laws.
We do need a few additional laws, and here they are:
1. Hiring an illegal should become a federal crime and carry with it a one year minimum prison term, per offense.
2. Providing an illegal with any sort of taxpayer-funded services, including education, should be made a federal crime carrying a one year minimum prison term, per offense. The only exception should be emergency medical care for an individual whose life is legitimately at immediate risk.
3. Any city or state that establishes itself as a “sanctuary” for illegals...by legislation or action...should lose every time of federal money.
4. Any Church that provides support for illegals should lose any and all tax exempt status.
not “time”...DIME
I might also add that both stepsons were “investigated” and their backgrounds “approved” by the FBI BEFORE they were given visas to even come to this country. I, personally, was visited by two FBI agents and “investigated and approved” BEFORE my stepsons were issued visas. So, the FBI has approved them to come into the country with approved visas but have to “investigate” them again before they will be given I-151 conditional permanent residency.
Any excuse the FBI can use to justify more money for “investigations”, I guess!
BUMP
