Rep. Waters: Republicans Dead in Water
scoop.co.nz ^ | 06/20/07 | David Swanson

Rep. Maxine Waters says our voices have been muted by right-wing talk shows defining us, rather than we defining ourselves. When you mention race, you get accused of using the race card and race baiting. Many elected officials started backing off.

They were being called race baiters, and the progressive community wasn't defending them. When you talk about this president's tax breaks for the richest one percent, you're accused of being divisive and putting the poor people against the rich. I wish we COULD pit the poor people against the rich. Look at what America discovered about poor people when Katrina happened. And the rest of the world looked at Katrina and said "Oh no, these are the folks with their great democracy who try to tell the rest of the world how to run their countries." Katrina exposed this nation for its hypocrisy. People who run to New Orleans to party don't look behind the French Quarter.

Poor people, Waters said, don't have a lot of representatives. Right wing Congress Members with poor people in their districts don't represent them. But it appears that a discussion of poverty is getting back on the agenda. People ask who I am supporting for President. I'm not supporting anyone yet, because they're not talking about poverty or race. The closest to it is John Edwards. But we've got a long way to go. We've got to stop liking candidates becuase they're cute or because they stop by your church, etc. Don't worry about who can beat the Republicans. "The Republicans are dead in the water, and we need to put our foot on their necks and drown them." We need to decide which candidate will act on our behalf.

Thanks! I pay close attention to what Maxine Waters predicts. I have a lot of respect for her. She has such high integrity and analytical skills; she is nearly infallible in her prophecies.

(slap) Ouch! Oh crap! Sorry! Channeling Michael Moore again...

I gotta get different meds.

Very similar to the Lunatic and Corrupt Ford family in Tennessee.

Playing the race card is racist in itself. To accuse someone of racism without proof is hate speech.

What they need is to run a champion of the poor; someone like Mike Nifong. He knows how to put those uppity rich white folks in their place and he’s available.

Don’t worry about drowning us you old bitch. We’re doing a splendid enough job of that ourselves.

Since 1992, she’s been good ol’ Maxine Kerosene!

(Title awarded by Larry Elder, who happens to be black.)

Uh, who does she think represents talk radio? The very right-wing nuts she thinks are being exploited by talk radio. Idiot. My daughter's pet bulldog has more brains than she does.

Maxine Waters—even Darwin couldn’t classify her.

Terminally brain-dead and still upright and breathing—simply amazing.

And her constituents are just as stupid for re-electing this loser time and time again.

Maxine, Maxine, Maxine, your ignorance knows no bounds.

Tax cuts, by definition, will only benefit those who pay taxes. Said another way, a tax cut will never benefit anyone who does not pay any taxes to begin with.

Well, if Waters says we’re DOA, then I suppose Fred becomes President in ‘08 and we regain both houses of Congress.
