why is there no refinery capability? my theory is the govt of iran does not believe there is a future for it to invest in. in other words.. something near-term is going to happen that will moot any need for infrastructure investment of this sort.

Nobody is ever hungry for something they never tasted.

If we attack Iran, it is to defend ourselves, not to free the so-called innocent Iranians.

I’m sort of curious about why there is not enough refinery capacity in Iran.
Price controls (aka socialism). Look for the same situation in Venezuela soon enough.

I’m with you. Some of this rhetoric is getting very reckless, and I don’t care how angry people are about the border and illegal aliens. We don’t need to fight with ourselves and spout paranoid claptrap.

I completely agree. However, again, it would be even better if the Iranian people took care of it themselves.

Still it isn’t enough to topple the regime. There has to be at least 30 times as many people in 30 different locations.

That’s a good point. Thing is, there’s no shortage of countries who have either A. A very rapidly aging population, whose demographics do not lend themselves to stability, or, the opposite. Have always been struck on how remarkably similar people are throughout the world - it’s governments that cause the problems. For all that, I have never understood how the US came to be seen in our media as some sort of pariah. If that is the apparent sentiment, then it is no more valid than when the US was looked upon as the Great White Father.

I saw in both Korea and Germany having been stationed there in the 90s how the more senior population “remembered” and could attest to what we (or anyone else for that matter) really did. Not that yours truly had any hand in all this, but as a general observation. The younger generation who had not directly experienced what happened had been led off on all sorts of tangents.

President Bush told us that the war on terror would be fought in ways that would not always be obvious and public. That phase has began In Palestine and now Iran.

Good.

Petrol rationing sparks riot in Iran
Posted 2 hours 4 minutes ago

Angry Iranians set fire to a Tehran petrol station and chanted anti-government slogans in a north-west area of the capital in protest against fuel rationing introduced in OPEC’s number two oil producer.

A witness said flames rose from the gasoline station in Pounak, a poorer area of the capital, with cars burning inside.

Some youths hurled stones and chanted, “Guns, fireworks, tanks, (President Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad should be killed”, the witness said.

Another witness said riot police had gathered near the gasoline station and sought to push the rioters back.

Before rationing was introduced, some media reported scuffles at petrol stations between drivers queuing to stock up.

State TV said on Tuesday rationing would start at midnight, prompting drivers to rush to fill up before the deadline.

The second witness cited reports of Iranians attacking another fuel station in Tehran, but gave no further details.

That report could not be independently confirmed.

I hope the Iranian people throw off this regime. They deserve better. Imagine what a positive force this country could be if under democratic leadership.

These type things can go a long way in reducing the faith the older more dumb Iranians place in the regiem.
The POTUS of course is taking a lot of heat, now as we see from even Bolton, but it is possible that Iran could be slowly shut down, literally, forcing the wished counter revolution to take place, before the POTUS leaves office.
Surely the deep penetrator bombs are either at the stage or close to the stage where they actually could take out most if not all the underground facilities and we could strategically destroy all their industrial above ground sites that deal with the nuclear programs long before they are at a stage where they could actually construct a workable small yield atomic bomb.
Time has not run out on bringing them to their knees without a large military pre-emptive strike. GWB is around for another year plus.
