"The axe test has its place...."

Axe? Heck, this thing has more lives that Rasputin. They shot, poisoned, and drowned him and still couldn't kill him. I think it might take the entire arsenal to finish this one off.

We WON

Yes, we did. However we now must be aware of those pro-immigration politicians who will NOW claim to be "tough on immigration" to save their sorry asses during the 2008 elections.

Yes, We WON ... now we must remember ...

Interesting 70% of Democrats suppored the amnesty bill, 75% of Republicans voted against it.

And in polls....75% of Democrats are against amnesty, and 95% Republicans are against amnesty.

Clearly, the senate is NOT listening to Americans.

We need to work just as hard, and make just as many phone calls, etc. as we have been to demand that real enforcement start NOW. Let's continue what we've continued, not let up and wait for the vampire to return.

We should move immediately forward and push HARD for enforcement of existing law. There's no rest for the wicked so we can't rest either.

Good post, Candor7! Needs repeating:

“A border war has evolved in the Southern Tier of our states, as Illegal Alien aggression accelerates under the auspices of Mexican communist revolutionaries formerly trained in El Salvador, drug runners and arms runners. And the Border patrol can’t use force?”

I just got an MSNBC alert that reads “In defeat for Bush, Senate rejects immigration reform bill”. LMAO

Yea, that's what he gets for lying down with Kennedy.

The problem of the 20mil illegal invaders is very much alive. They must be forced to leave.

Those who came for jobs would leave on their own if the jobs weren't there. Punish the employers with JAIL TIME ... Fines are passed to their customers as a cost of doing business.

We can then assume that those who do not leave on their own only came for Crime and/or Welfare ... deport them all.

“See you at the signing”....You won’t need that pen!...Forget about it!

Yes, I can't wait to hear what the elitist Republican talking heads, like Fred Barnes, are going to say about this.

They were predicting its passage.

I understand what you are saying, and yes, I agree that some on our side can be as irrational as 99% of those on the left seem to be, but we are in very different times now than we were in 1986. The fact that the President of the United States and a very large percentage of the U.S. Congress have been trying to push this through in the face of 70-80% public opposition is stunning, and should give everyone great pause, regardless of the issue at hand. I am a dyed-in-the-wool Conservative, and have enthusiastically voted for President Bush each time. However, I don't think it is "hyperventilating" to point out that he has abandoned his conservative base on this issue, and that his actions constitute a DIRECT AND SERIOUS breach of his oath of office. As has been pointed out many times, if our elected officials, particularly the Executive Branch, in whom the power to defend the United States is vested, refuse to repel foreign invaders and to secure the Nation's borders, they have committed what arguably could be an impeachable offense.

Today was a great psycological win.

Now how do we get our leaders to enforce our existing laws?
What do we do if they simply refuse to enforce our existing laws?

Anybody???

I can appreciate people being upset or let down on where GWB stands on this issue (in believing a comprehensive bill is the way to go, instead fixing things issue by issue ...that is related to the whole immigration / border security, visa problems.

With that being said, every POTUS since FDR (most certainly Nixon, JC, R. Reagan, Bush Sr) should have all been impeached....Taking your position above. Most certainly R. Reagan.

And that just doesn't pass the reality test. Hell, it could (likely should) be argued that R. Reagan should have demanded more back in 86 when it was a much more manageable problem (ditto that for Soc Security). Yet they were pushed down the road only to become what they are today.

Lets also be clear, immigration was not a huge issue in either 00 or 04. It simply was not.
