President Bush ordered his former White House counsel, Harriet Miers, to defy a congressional subpoena and refuse to testify Thursday before a House panel investigating U.S. attorney firings.
"Ms. Miers has absolute immunity from compelled congressional testimony as to matters occurring while she was a senior adviser to the president," White House Counsel Fred Fielding wrote in a letter to Miers' lawyer, George T. Manning.
Manning, in turn, notified committee chairman John Conyers, D-Mich., that Miers would not show up Thursday to answer questions about the White House role in the firings of eight federal prosecutors over the winter.
Conyers, who had previously said he would consider pursuing criminal contempt citations against anyone who defied his committee' subpoenas, revealed the letters after former White House political director Sara Taylor testified Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Come think of it she still lawyer RIGHT why don’t she testify if she have nothing to hide tesitify
Bush to Conyers.... “Kiss my lily white...”
When will Clinton come forward and explain why he fired all of the federal prosecutors?
What????
When Republicans have the courage to stand up to the Dems.
This circus is yet another waste of taxpayer dollars.
After the Scooter Libby trial, no republican should ever testify unless its to plead the 5th. It’s just another conservative/witch hunt.
It has nothing to do with having something to hide, it has everything to do with the principle of executive privilege and the equality of the three branches of government. Should the WH have the right to subpoena members of Congress and require them to testify about discussions they had with their staff? Remember the Congressional reaction when the DOJ seized papers and computers from Cong. Jefferson’s office?
All your base belong to us?!?!?!?
Heck, he'd have to grant a blanket pardon to all of us for that :)
Your logic is as clear as your grammar.
your broken English is intertaining usually but in this case,it is a sepration of powers thing and Conyers knows it too
What she said!!
I only wish I knew what she (7/9) said.
So, never.
But seriously I saw the hearings on C-span at the time. The prosecutor who was preparing the indictments against Clinton testified for quite a while. I don’t remember seeing any White House officials at the hearings.
Have a few pops for lunch?
I was saying if she is Dubya lawyer still she don’t need testify RIGHT I think so
Client and lawyer confidential protection I THINK SO
You must have missed this part:
"Ms. Miers has absolute immunity from compelled congressional testimony as to matters occurring while she was a senior adviser to the president."
You can't cite someone who enjoys immunity.
Her name isn't 7/9, 7 divided by 9 or 7 over 9. It's 7 of 9 just like the Star Trek character. Her name I understand, what she said, I don't.
