Commercial Satellite Photos Reveal Tunneling Near Iran Nuke Site

WASHINGTON - Iran has been constructing a tunnel near a major nuclear facility.

A U.S. research group reported that Iran was constructing a tunnel inside a mountain near a uranium enrichment facility. The group said the tunnel could be designed to conceal nuclear activity or anti-aircraft batteries.

"The construction activity is taking place in the closest mountainous area to the Natanz site, strongly suggesting that the site is affiliated with Natanz," the Institute for Science and International Security said.

The analysis, authored by David Albright and Paul Brannan, was based on commercial satellite imagery taken of Iran on June 11. The satellite imagery, taken by the U.S. firm DigitalGlobe, does not show the entrances to the tunnel. But the images show two roads under construction, one of which leads to the tunnel...

Hey, gotta hide all those weapons and materials somewhere -— most likely in bomb-proof sheltering. Isreal should be placing orders for “bunker-busters” pretty soon...

Iran is an ant hill of tunnels. There is many more than just one.

“A tunnel facility inside a mountain would offer excellent protection from an aerial attack.”

How do satellites detect tunnels? Ground-penetrating radar? All the way from space??

How about just picking up a road that disappears into a hill or mountain? Or a photo shot at an angle enough to see the entrance.

If that were true we could finally see if this a vault under the left paw of the Sphinx in Egypt...

I think it is detecting construction equipment and removal trucks hauling dirt away.

Disturbed dirt leading to and stopping at a straight line. Also, images taken from an angle as opposed to straight down would be able to see the door of the tunnel in addition to evidence of the activity around it.

I doubt the satellite “detected” it. More than likely someone was reviewing photographs like they did way back when to find mass graves... wherever that was. Bosnia? Dunno.

Depends on the ordinance used. A B-83 yielded up would at least serve notice.

There are other creatures that dig tunnels under the ground too. Worms and dung beetles.

Wonder if you could Google Earth it? Are the satellite images ever updated?

::::::
Yes, would not surprise me :-) -— If there was ever a joint federal and municipal make-work scam, the BIG DIG is it....if my history is correct, that was a joint Clinton-Kennedy get-the-union-vote boondoggle that cost the taxpayers a rather large bundle...but they don’t seem to care in the People’s Democratic Republic of Massachusetts...they keep voting that drunken, criminal reprobate back into the senate. Fools.
