I’m in favor of a wall all along the entire border, but why start it here, where there’s local opposition? Why not start it in Arizona, where the ranchers are crying out from relief from armed-gangs migrating north over their land?
First of all, we can't be sure that the opposition is "real" or just "vocal"--as in carefully spun. We know that Bush doesn't want to build this thing.
Maybe they want a lot of noise, or are even engineering a lot of noise, to try to kill the project.
Bush and Mexico are like Bill and Monica.
Because Bush and the open-borders crowd really DOESN'T want to build it. It's like Chertoff said after the Senate bill died about enforcing the immigration laws, that we'll now start to see stories about families pulled apart, etc., resulting from a new emphasis on enforcement.
They hope that publicity from local opposition to the fence and sob stories in the press about "undocumented Americans" being sent back to Mexico will turn public opinion around and then they can get their amnesty bill passed, do some token work on a "virtual fence" and get back to building a superhighway for Mexican trucks into the heartland.
These guys can never get a break. Give credit where credit is due.
There’s not quite the amount of local opposition that this article claims. That’s just the usual media BS.
Many Texans, like Bush and myself, do approve of some sort of plan for legalizing the illegal aliens already here but we want border control first and foremost. Despite the blusterings, I doubt there’s many people here on FR who, if faced between living in a Mexican dump or illegally going to America, would stay in Mexico. Talk about a country that needs a regime change.
Any plan for legalization would have to include requirements for integrating into American culture. My wife is Mexican by ancestry even though the most recent immigrant in her ancestry was one grandfather who came across the border when he was 2 months old. Yet my wife didn’t speak a word of English until she started public school. Her parents did her a real disservice. That’s very typical of the culture though — they want to maintain their own enclaves and not assimilate into American society. Hard work is admired but education is mostly ignored.
I expect that you know why.
Prediction: They won’t build a single mile.
Because there's local opposition. Chertoff intends to see that it's never built.
Who gives a CR*P about what the liberal hispanics in South Texas think? The REST of Texas wants the wall built.
Why not? When I was living in CA; every Mexican told me they were from McAllen Tx. LOL
Because the WH wants the issue of people opposing the construction of the fence thereby stalling overall construction. It plays well in the media for the open border types.
Why not both places at the same time? Local opposition won't diminish by next year or the year after.
Someone had the tag line for a long time, commenting on everything without reading anything, was that you?
spite.
They don't want to build a fence so they are going to be petulant children about it.
remember McCain's "Alrigtht! Alright! I'll build their G*damn fence! "
“Why not start it in Arizona, where the ranchers are crying out from relief from armed-gangs migrating north over their land?”
Because:
1) Chertoff is a DAM LIAR, AND WILL FIND ANOTHER EXCUSE WHY HE COULDN’T BEGIN BUILDING IN TEXAS.
2) Chertoff has NO INTENTION of EVER builing a wall in Arizona.
Chertoff: Work to Begin on Border Wall
“We’re just waiting for enough Lego bricks to start working.”
“Im in favor of a wall all along the entire border, but why start it here, where theres local opposition? Why not start it in Arizona, where the ranchers are crying out from relief from armed-gangs migrating north over their land?”
Are these the same ranchers who are crying over having their land taken by the government to build the wall that will protect them from the armed gangs?
