Forrest's soldiers loved him. His fellow generals admired him. His enemies were terrified at the mere mention of his name. Gen. Robert E. Lee said of his finest subordinate commanders, the most remarkable was one he "had never met" — Forrest. And U.S. and foreign military officers alike have studied Forrest’s campaigns over the decades since the end of the war. It has even been speculated that some aspects of the German Blitzkrieg were patterned after some of Forrest's operations.

You call me dumb after I posted citations to back up my point. If you want to name call, fine, I don’t. Grow up and post your own facts, not loose talk and childish insults.

And the man who should have been second in command of Confederate forces after Lee.

Not necessarily. Forrest was a commander who excelled in one particulat sphere or warfare - irregular cavalry commander. Take him out of that comfort zone and put him in charge of an infantry corps, for example, and there is no way of telling how he might have done.

My last point here is that Forrest did not see himself as a classic cavalryman, didn't believe in it. He modeled his tactics more along the concept of dragoons, mounted foot soldiers. He believed that the horse was most useful in delivering troops quickly to and away from a battlefield.

He didn't agree that a horse was a weapons platform, his troops rarely carried sabres, but better a method of troop transport.

This distinction and difference from other classic cavalrymen such as Stuart, Gregg, Sheridan is what interested Rommel.

keep saying over & over to yourself:

"I've been LIED TO & made a FOOL of by KNOWING liars",

until you get it.

what you posted is a PACK of ANTI-southern LIES, told by LIARS, who completely understand that they are LYING.

it's really no more complicated than that.

fyi, i could (if i had time) post a HUNDRED citations by IDIOTS/LEFTISTS/REVISIONISTS that would support you, but they all would still be LIES, told by KNOWING liars to FOOL the UNwary/ILL-educated/UNknowing/naive.

as i said, go do some RESEARCH of your own into the memoirs of the UNION officers who were ACTUALLY there at Ft Pillow. then come back & tell us all that you were DUPED!

The War Between the States was lost in the Western theater.

Where Forrest fought. He was a constant thorn in the side of the Union army but nothing he did halted, or really even slowed the inevitable Union victory.

I’d take a Stonewall Jackson over a R.E. Lee as a general.

Great. You take Jackson, I'll take Lee, and I'll beat you every time.

My great-grandfather’s brother, a Virginian, fought under Forrest. He was killed at Fort Donleson, the only battle Forrest lost.

If you had time? You've made quite a number of posts on this subject, none of which have added to the academic discussion.

I did the research, made my point, now you do the research, and make your point.

There is a wonderful search engine called GOOGLE. They can help you sound like something other than a revisionist, confederate, sore loser.

I'm not saying that you are, but I'm worried that others might think so because of your use of capital letters and insults, and irrational challenges, and refusal to provide citations to your point of view.

ANYBODY who BELIEVES anything off the "worldwidewierd", absent INDEPENDENT proof, is a DUNCE.(sorry, but that is FACT!)

the "worldwidewierd" is FILLED with lies, silliness, ignorance, common gossip, conspiracy theories & outright nonsense. it is NOT an acceptable research tool for ANY purpose. period. end of story.

TRUTH is found in dusty tomes, in LIBRARIES.

as for my admittedly odd typing, it suits me. if it bothers you, feel free to "scroll on by".

btw, a FORMER member of "the DAMNyankee coven of LOSERS, fools, BIGOTS, "useful idiots",REVISIONISTS, weirdos & a RACIST" recently posted in the "worldwidewierd" that Robert E. Lee was the PRESIDENT of the CSA & was NEVER a military officer.

THAT is the sort of IGNORANT nonsense that is frequently on the "www".

You know, I think I will take your advice and "scroll on by" your comments from now on. I think it's apparent that facts and research are unnecessary to your posts.

It also appears that your comments are intended to bait others into bigoted and irrational discussions.

The www is only a tool for gathering ideas, we don't have to accept these ideas. But it provides an excellant starting point and a damn-sight better basis than the ungrounded comments you've made.

Remember: "Get there the first with the most". It works for ideas too.........

laughing AT you.

be sure to join "the DAMNyankee coven". you can be a STAR among that bunch of DUPES.

NO serious research of ANY sort can be done on the "worldwidewierd". period. end of story.

when one of my students here at the college attempts to use such a "source", ABSENT independent PROOF, it's an automatic "F".

otoh, if you are interested in whether or not Paris Hilton, Britteny Spears (or any other of a few hundred little TROLLOPS) wears underpants (or more likely does NOT), the "www" is a FINE place to look for that "information".

I’d take a Stonewall Jackson over a R.E. Lee as a general.

I'd take both, please. Armies need both the master strategist and the battlefield commander -- like Marshall and Patton decades later.
