CT: Gun Sales Rise After Cheshire Home Invasion
WFSB-TV (Connecticut) ^ | 7/26/07 | n/a

NEWINGTON, Conn. -- State gun sales have shot up in the days after the wife and two daughters of a prominent Connecticut physician were killed, according to a local gun shop owner.

Scott Hoffman runs Hoffman's Gun Center on the Berlin Turnpike. In the past few days, following the triple homicide in Cheshire, Hoffman said that people have been rushing to his store to buy guns for themselves and their homes.

"They're scared," he said. "They're scared for their own personal safety and their family's safety, their children's safety and they want a way to protect themselves."

Hoffman said that the most popular weapon for both men and women looking to defend themselves is a defense-grade shotgun. Hoffman credited the gun's popularity to the short waiting period -- it can be obtained in two weeks as opposed to waiting 90 days for a pistol permit.

"We sell about 8,000 guns a year, and I'd say a majority of them are for self-defense," he said.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Jessica Schneider reported that residents questioning their sense of safety following the home invasion have also been calling companies that install security systems.

Joe Mitchell of Associated Security Corp. said his company's phones have been ringing off the hook.

"I had 15 phone calls on my phone by 9:30 in the morning," he said.

He said that security systems aren't meant to protect valuables anymore, that many people use them to protect their lives.

I guess the sheeple who are now doing the buying didn't think anything bad could happen in the Peoples' Democracy of CT. Evil goes wherever it wants, and THE POLICE WILL NOT do a damn thing to protect you. Their job is to raise traffic revenue and arrest criminals AFTER THE FACT (if they can find them)

What is the waiting period in CT for home invasions? Do the criminals have to wait two weeks after first checking with the owner? 90 Days if they're going to murder one or more people?

I'm going to do a little gloating here and point out one of the many diffrences between the police state of CT and ga. Last time I purchased a handgun (H&K USP .40) I went to the gun shop plunked down the money, underwent the unconstitutional instant background check and walked out 10 minutes later with the gun. I did have to wait when I bought my UZI - about two and a half months.

C'mon, that's what the POLICE are for. Just dial 911.

So what if it literally takes the rest of your life for them to respond. </sarcasm>

Here are the perps...

Thanks for the link. Since I first heard about this, I wondered who the scumbags are.

From the article...

Now, the state's parole board is conducting a review to see if the system somehow failed.

Duh!!! Yathink?

NH is closer than PA to VT. Buy HG, background check, state does it, load it and carry home in the open. Need a permit to carry concealed.

Is Connecticut truly that lame?

Yes.

The 90 days is the time it takes to get a carry permit if you don’t have one. It isn’t the time it takes to get a purchase approved if you have a permit.

Know what you call an unloaded pistol? A hammer.

Debbie Schuessel (sp?) says that her father said that during the Detroit Riots in 1967, the Jews bought guns, the White Goyim bought ammunition.

>> Every home needs on of these:

Mossie, ol’ friend! The Tick home has a Mossberg combat shotgun... regular stock, and the longer-barrel version.

I’m not a weapons expert by any stretch. But it seems that the barrel-length tradeoff is magazine capacity vs. maneuverability inside a building.

Do you recommend the pistol grip? I thought about maybe getting another mossie equipped like you show... how hard would that be for a non-hardcore “user” like myself to handle and shoot?

OK, I'm now confused. What about some person who has never had a firearm of any sort before and wants to get one for home use, but not to carry. What's the wait for that?

What would he do if his wife actually tried to use that gun for her own self defense?

His wife and he will take little comfort and less security from his having "placated" her. She might even be more vulnerable, falsely assuming that she has protection that is not there.

The Model 590 Persuader nine-shot? That's what I've got.

That sounds similar to PA. Except in PA, anybody over 18 can get a CC permit same day, for only the stated reason of “self defense”. No courses required and you don’t even have to own a gun. And you can stop in any gun shop you happen to pass on the highway and walk out fifteen minutes later with a .357 if you feel like it. I am proud of Pennsylvania in that regard. (Of course, Pennsylvania is the militia capital of the country, and the politicians are not about to screw around with gun laws in any serious manner.)

The pistol grip equipped shotguns aren’t hard to handle if you use moderately powerful ammo. I shot one once with 2 3/4” shells with some kind of buckshot (I was shooting my friend’s gun), and the recoil wasn’t bad. It was like shooting a .44 mag with an 18” barrel.

Thanks for the insight. Makes sense.

I use 2 3/4” shells, somehow that load seems adequate inside a residence. (!)

If I might ask... how do you hold the pistol-grip equipped shotgun when you shoot? With the grip about hip-level (and OUTSIDE the hip, obviously)?

Here in Nevada, I can pay cash for a Russian anti-aircraft gun at 'Bazookas-R-Us' and haul it away on a trailer without a background check.

... Well, not really, but pretty damn near.

Nevadans who haven't got a gun nearby are typically uncommon. I'd trust a 14 year old Nevada boy with an M16 in this state.
