Wake Forest? Really?!
Yes, the Demon Deacons were good and yes they found ways to win with timely play, a never-say-die attitude, and a fantastic offensive line that stood on its head, but lets be honest here; if theyre winning the ACC title, the league is down.
When a leagues two power programs (Miami and Florida State) are each mediocre also-rans, most will perceive the conference wont be quite up to snuff. While that isnt always the case, it didnt help last season that Clemson, everyones mid-season darling, collapsed, Virginia Techs brain went bye-bye in critical back-to-back losses to Georgia Tech and Boston College, BC lost to NC State on a last season miracle pass and to Wake Forest after dominating the entire game, and the Yellow Jackets, well, they had Reggie Ball at quarterback.
--snip--
Even if the Canes and Noles are close to being national players again, the ACC still might not be back to where conference fans hoped it would be after the Big East raid of a few years ago. However, its going to be a terrific, wide-open season with several teams legitimately in the hunt for the title. And yeah, that might even include Wake Forest.

That would be a 7-6 Nole team...
Nebraska’s nonconference has a pretty tough schedule now that I took a look at it. To say nothing of Nevada and Ball State, USC and Wake are going to be pretty tough tests, esp. with Wake on the road.
But, as you said, the Huskers do travel well, so it may not be as tough as we think? :)
I can only hope for a slim chance of a Mississippi team going to a bowl.
You must be discussing perennial "also-rans" Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Southern Mississippi will almost certainly be in a bowl game, just as they have in nine of the last ten years.
Southern Miss comes to my neck of the woods to play Boise State in September. If any of you have nothing to do on a Thursday night, watch this game.
I want to see Boise State win, but be wary of Southern Miss. they get a ton of great athletes who don't qualify academically for major conferences. They put A LOT of players into the NFL.
I concur. Southern Miss is traditionally a formidable team, although I think they’re overshadowed by their “bigger” brothers in Ole Miss and Miss St.
FEAR THE TURTLE!
Fear the turtle?
‘Canes are on their way back now that Coker’s out and Randy Shannon is in. The ACC better make the most of this year, because the ‘Canes have been recruiting the heck out of Florida, just like they did in the late 80’s and late 90’s. And we know what happened then...title, after title, after title, after title, after title. And that doesn’t even count the one that was stolen by a ref named Porter, or the one that never had a chance thanks to the stinkin’ BCS...
Although I don’t think Clemson will have the earth shattering season all of us fans of that team desire, I still think this one will be better than the last one.
In 10 years the ‘canes will have more shot-up players than titles.
This is the best quote of the summer so far. The Gators "ultimate test of manhood, a visit to Baton Rouge, La., on Oct. 6".
I can't wait.
When the Gay-tors join the ACC, that’s when you should talk your crap on an ACC thread. Enjoy your championship while it lasts.
Fans like you are the reason people hate the Gay-tors.
I’m rekindling my hatred for the gay-tors; it’s taking their fans on FR to help. And OH are they helping...
Nice review, and quite a fair representation of the upcoming season. Thanks for the heads up.
Ooooohhhh....Burn!
I got tired of picking on Ohio State, so it’s back to good old FSU bashing.
