This is the correct result. I think once the issue was put plainly to them (by the protestors earlier this week) the KC had no choice but to do this.

It is long past time to put a stop to politicians using the Catholic Church and its organizations to pass themselves off as Catholic in order to get votes -- when they don't believe in the most basic tenets of the Church and vote against them at every opportunity.

It's false advertising of the worst kind and creates a scandal in the Church.

Can someone who knows for sure, please explain to me why I was able to get nowhere with a complaint I had about a 4th degree Knight publicly supporting John Kerry? The man was listed as such on the “E” masthead of a website called Catholics 4 Kerry .org. His name escapes me now but, as the field coordinator of Catholics Against Kerry, I tried to get someone from the KoC to take action and was told there is no national governing body of the KoC as such and each Counsel would have to make its own decision. In other words there was nothing that could be done. I would never do anything to hurt this fine old organization, so I did not make an IRS complaint, but as far as I read the 501 rules, the KoC could lose its tax exemption if a member used his title in a political effort. More than this, such a member could be expelled for supporting a man who obviously is so hostile to the beliefs of the Catholic Church.
If you can explain these discrepancies I would love to be set straight.

Order officially resolved to forbid pro-abortion politicians from attending their events. The Order also renewed its support for the traditional definition of marriage and called for the protection of conscience for people in the medical field

I do have one question...

Was the Knight in question supporting Kerry in public while referencing (or otherwise demonstrating) that he was a 4th Degree Knight (or Knight at all)?

This is key.

The Knights do not engage in partisan politics. It’s a core tenet of the Order. We will not support candidates - but we will take positions on issues. You will not ever see the Knights endorse a candidate as an organization.

If the Knight in question was using the Order in his support of Kerry...then he was wrong. You can complain - but this is a tough road to travel, as it’s a difficult thing to prove. But...if you’d like to know how to pursue this further, please FReepmail me. I can’t promise to answer quickly...as I’m only on this forum once in a while, but I will respond.

Every council works differently. As far as policing politcal activism, if the guy was undercutting the Catholic position, then something should have been done. I can't answer in particular.

I know generally, that some guys were told wearing buttons at meetings was bad taste, and one guy was not invited to join when we found he was a CTA guy. I am a 4th degree too.

The Knights always get it right!

Too bad all those ultraliberal Catholic college presidents won’t do the same.
