Fred Thompson's Gamble
WashingtonPost.com ^ | 8-16-17 | David S. Broder

When Fred Thompson makes his long-delayed entrance into the Republican presidential race, he will not tiptoe quietly. Instead, he will try to shake up the establishment candidates of both parties by depicting a nation in peril from fiscal and security threats -- and prescribing tough cures that he says others shrink from offering.

In a two-hour conversation over coffee at a restaurant near his Virginia headquarters, the former senator from Tennessee said that when he joins the battle next month, he "will take some risks that others are not willing to take, in terms of forcing a dialogue on our entitlement situation, our military situation and what it's going to cost" to ensure the nation's future.

After spending most of the past few years on TV's "Law and Order," and starting a new family, with two children under 4, the 65-year-old lawyer says he finds himself motivated for the first time to seek the White House.

"There's no reason for me to run just to be president," he said. "I don't desire the emoluments of the office. I don't want to live a lie and clever my way to the nomination or election. But if you can put your ideas out there -- different, more far-reaching ideas -- that is worth doing."

I don't desire the emoluments of the office. I don't want to live a lie and clever my way to the nomination or election.

... And with a flick of the wrist Fred sends Mitt flying through the air, crashing limply into a wall.

Thompson is the real deal.

He will need our help to fend off the Dan Rathers of the Mainstream Media and the War Machine of the Domestic Traitors Party aka Democrat Party.

I know he will have millions of warriors in his corner.

Daily Fred Thompson Fact

The most commonly known English phrases worldwide are “Hello,” “Thank you,” and “Please don’t hurt me, Fred Thompson!”

I imagine using words like emoluments will grant him some immunity from the standard GOP President is a Mental Defective.

I am looking forward to the whining Domestic Traitors Party dealing with that!

True.

Interesting Fred has spent next to nothing to be close to the lead, well ahead of Romney nationally.

It is becoming more evident that he has to calculate his odds against a shrill speaker with pant suit persona. It must be undeniable that victory is in the can. The method of getting this support is quite dangerous. Yes, I support Fred, his decision will be based on a media plan to make it happen. We’ll have to wait on the committee's answer.

Permit me to say that Rice has proven to be a major disappointment at Foggy Bottom.

She has Liberal Academia disease, and seems completely unable to integrate street smarts into her standard RINO approach to foreign affairs.

are we SURE that Fred isn't just a plant to limit Rudy or Mitt for that matter?...

its seems like most of us are not backing a horse in this race because we keep thinking Fred will be our guy....

in the meantime, Rudy, our best chance, is getting very little support or attention...

If Fred does not run and does not run with passion I will know my answer.....another Perot stategic move to get the right crooked politician in place....

IMO we don’t want anyone who is closely tied to the current administration on the 2008 ticket. Which rules out Condi Rice.

why I like Condi and think she is brilliant and remarkable, we needed a tiger and we got a pussy cat...

if Fred runs, and gets the nod, I just hope we don't get another Republican party guy with NO charisma or appeal.....
