I was listening to the news out of the corner of my ear when I heard FreeRepublic specifically mentioned as a "hate site" about fifteen minutes ago.
Ostensibly the long report was about the Klan using the web to recruit new wackos. Then the focus turned to Casa Maryland, and their director who claimed that calls for his murder had circulated on the internet by anti-immigrant bigots. It was then that the anchor identified FR by name as a hate site.
Got it.
Politics, religion and social issues are things people are most passionate about.
Discussing any one in an open forum is going to get you poked in the eye at some point by those who disagree with your beliefs.
Should laws be passed outlawing the hurting of feelings or saying things contrary to state-approved speech?
That is where this is headed.
If some people get their way, we WILL have the government telling us what we can and cannot say, believe and do, because they know better than anyone what hate is and it is for the common good, afterall.
There is a huge battle going on right now and the left is trying to control and define what is acceptable speech. This is NOT okay.
Hate crimes are morphing into hate speech which will morph into hate thoughts.
I can guarantee you that if they’re allowed their way that in time, unless you worship the state and its agenda, you’ll be guilty of a hate crime.

You're on the money there. Additionally, they win if we operate under their definition of "hate", "racism" and the like. If they can pin us down under the weight of forced political correctness and have us walking on eggshells, truth is silenced, and they win.
Maybe you should try contacting David Horowitz? He does a lot of work with conservative university students. He’s the President of the Center for the Study of Popular Culture. I’m sure you can find him on-line somewhere. Good luck.

Someone at your station referenced FR as a hate site. I've been a member there for 9 years, and you don't know what you're talking about. I proudly stand by every post I've ever made, and I would bet that the vast majority of other members would join me in doing so without hesitation.
I support the sovereignty of the United States and I uphold the Constitution, but I loudly and vigorously oppose any attempts by any group to undermine our strength and integrity, and our God-ordained assignment to defend life, liberty and property throughout the world on behalf of the innocent.
Before you blindly parrot some ignorant and irresponsible comment by Bill O'Reilly, who apparently has a personal axe to grind, you should do your own research.

I tried to tell certain posters that just because they're yelling louder than most posters, doesn't mean their positions are supported by the majority of Freeperdom.

Every major candidate has inferred that... while they will 'enforce the laws', they are going to differentiate between alien murders and criminals and the peaceful, hardworking illegal immigrants.

Recently, one of your reporters was following the story of what websites are “hate sites” and what sites the Klan uses to recruit people to their cause, and you mentioned WWW.Freerepublic.com as a ‘hate site”.
I am a regular poster to Free Republic and am deeply offended at the knee jerk reaction and false statement such as that.
Hate speech, profanity, lewd talk and other similar conversations are either flatly banned or frowned upon. Free Republic is filled with smart, intellectual Christians, Catholics, and Jews who are among the most patriotic persons you ever met in your life.
To falsely claim that it is a hate site shows that you either don’t know what you are talking about or you are engaging in a deliberate slander yourself.
I heard that a single member of the FOX 5 team once committed a crime: does that mean ALL of the FOX 5 news team are criminals? Are you all racists?
You need to apologize openly, and profusely, to all members of Free Republic.com.
And if you want to try some side by side comparison, go the WWW.Democratunderground.com and Daily KOS.
Compare what is said there, the language used there, the comments, the vitriol...and see what you find.
Take that test: Read the last 100 threads only. Copy the language. Count the vulgarities.
Then do the same thing with Free Republic.com.
Are you sure the posters are being treated bad, or is some whacko belief system being treated bad instead?
If you insist on calling something hate, learn what you are talking about first.
To call an idology bad is not the same as calling people bad.
