F.R. defamed as "Hate Site" by Fox 5 News! [FOX News' Bill O'Reilly started this B/S]
Fox 5 News ^ | 8/16/07 | crusher

I was listening to the news out of the corner of my ear when I heard FreeRepublic specifically mentioned as a "hate site" about fifteen minutes ago.

Ostensibly the long report was about the Klan using the web to recruit new wackos. Then the focus turned to Casa Maryland, and their director who claimed that calls for his murder had circulated on the internet by anti-immigrant bigots. It was then that the anchor identified FR by name as a hate site.

Certainly it is ridiculous to call FR a “hate site”.

Even assuming that there are some idiots on this site posting vile things, calling the whole site hateful is like calling a whole small city hateful because of the activities of a few of its residents.

Yes, the same DCpatriot who for years described himself on his noe deleted profile as 'hopelessly liberal'.

These attacks are not really about whether FR is a “hate” site, it’s about FR’s wide influence. The threat of competition has spread to the uppermost ones...those that set the "tone" and policy.

but when free speech is set upon as being trivial, then the Republic suffers.

I don't think free speech is trivial. I think people who irresponsibly exercise their right to free speech are the ones who trivialize it.

You have been here much longer than I. Should you not promote rather than denigrate the site you visit?

I don't denigrate it. I'm pointing out a very serious problem that has cropped up here in the past year or two, which is doing injury to FR.

Perhaps you do, but I am dismayed you believe there are Klansmen, or those sounding like Klansmen on this site.

You're looking through the eyes of an insider. Try looking at some of those posts through the eyes of an outsider, and see if you understand my point then.

There are plenty of folks out there who want to tarnish FR's image, and lately we've been making national TV in a rather undesirable way. Why should we help them do it?

One of the beauties of the internet is that you can speak your mind. And one of the pitfalls of the internet is that you can speak without thinking. There's too much of that here -- people need to be more responsible in what they say, and how they say it.

But I love spinach, broccoli, and green beans. Does that offset? No. Not enough diversity there. Sorry. Now go on over to that TV screen and keep watching 'til you're feelin the sweet potato love. /s

Bush’s Fault! LOL

Seriously... bear with me for a second. It doesn’t surprise me at all that this charge is coming from a FOX station within the heart of D.C.

I really think some of the Republicans in office are none too happy that we were able to stop the whole amnesty thing — especially when some of the best refutation of the lies came on FR, and from FReepers! In fact, we were doing so well in exposing their lies that the White House ITSELF sent people here in person (both openly & undercover) to try and spread their propaganda.

It’s not as if this sentiment wasn’t already out there among the liberals in our society. I myself encountered it here in my small rural WI town/city in speaking to another blogger who was a rabid liberal (i.e. “How can you stand that site... filled with racists, etc... etc...).

However, the MSM and other “Republicans” did not jump on the bandwagon of calling this a hate site until AFTER Bush and other pro-amnesty “Republicans” started alluding to us all as being bigots and racists, and non-patriots for daring to stand up against them selling out our country!

I honestly think this is where it is all stemming from! Trying to marginalize the people and opinions expressed here at FR so that the next time they try to pull this crap we won’t be a factor.

So yes, Bush’s fault! (And McCain’s, and Kennedy’s and every other pro-amnesty politician and activist out there who isn’t too keen on the fact that we won in the last major battle...).

Throughout history governments and activists have tried to silence their opponents through character assassination — whether it be by branding them as crazy, unstable, etc... Racism just happens to be what our particular government and its politicians have latched onto in order to try and get non-thinking sheeple on their side (aka useful idiots). After all, who would be crazy enough to side with people who truly are racist???!!!???

We see this all the time on threads talking about Russia and Putin as well. Also, when we speak about what is going on with plans for the NAU... Also, when we DARE to question if an event is associated with terrorism (as that goes against the “Fight them there, or over here” propaganda). Character assassination is always clearly visible on those threads in the form of accusations of being a bigot, or a racist, or paranoid, or stupid, or foolish, etc... etc... etc...

Thanks RINOS! And, yes, we will remember this too!

Oh, and just for the record — I sent in my new voter’s registration form today... I am now officially a REPUBLICAN so as to work to prevent you (RINOS) from holding office again in the best way I know how — from inside! Yep, I want to see the Republican party RETURN to its roots and stop those who claim to be Republican (RINOS) from destroying this country in cahoots with socialist liberals!

PS: I’m pinging this to both my “Newslinks” list, and my OU Bombing Ping list because, well, I’m just so darn proud of this post! LOL No, seriously I think we have all seen this happen on the various threads, and in relation to the various issues we discuss on both of those lists. This is a one-time only ping, and my apologies to several of you who might be on both lists, and get pinged twice.

Thanks. Following is what I sent:

It is my understanding that one of your news readers referred to Free Republic as a "hate site." I have been a member of Free Republic since the mid-90s, and I have seen no evidence of that. Perhaps you should spend some time on the site and find out what really goes on.

I think you’ve got it all wrong.

This is how it works.

Someone sees something on this site that they don’t agree with or disagree with strongly.

They tell their like-minded friends and/or eventually go to the media and whine “this site is a hate site” (simply because they disagree with the views here and are too lazy to challenge them with any real substance).

That’s all this is about, really - people who are ruled by their emotions find it much easier to just slap negative labels on stuff when they can’t argue their own point effectively.

I mean, c’mon, it’s soooooooooo much easier to just say a forum is a hate site than to actually, gasp, take the time and effort to debate the issues.

If the world hate[s] you, ye know [keep in mind WU] that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of [belonged to WU] the world, the world would love his [you as its WU] own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept [obeyed WU] my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake [because of my name WU], because they know not him that sent me. If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had [would not be guilty of WU] sin: but now they have no cloak [excuse] for their sin. He that hateth me hateth my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had [would not be guilty of WU] sin: but now have they both seen [the miracles WU] and hated both me and my Father. But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause [reason WU]. Jh 15:18-25

Have O’Reilly & this bozo ever even been on the internet or to this web site and read even one thread?

Did you actually watch his show? I did. I got the impression that he was defending this website in comparison to KOS. Please don't spread FUD! Watch the show and form your own opinion rather than getting it from someone's post(s).

Has anyone actually heard or read the news report?

Before anyone is bombarded with emails, letters or faxes, shouldn’t everyone make sure the news report actually exists?

It’s time for a high-profile lawsuit. That’s the only thing that will stop this, imo.

That's not exactly accurate. O'Reilly was talking about "hate sites" on the left and the right. He did, however, say it was MUCH worse on the left than the right but still slammed FR in the process.

Conspiracy theory:

I think O'Reilly and company are going after F.R. because we stood up against the illegal amnesty bill. They can't use the Fairness Doctrine on us so they are going to try to smear us or shut us down.

Free speech for conservatives are under attack.

Go back to the beginning of this thread.

Look at the top of the page, just under the title. See those red underlined words, Fox 5 News?

Click on it, and lo-and-behold, there's the report in all it's lying glory.

Hope this helps.

FR is not a hate site, although I will admit that a few months ago, I seriously thought I would stop visiting it because of the anti-immigration crowd, which spammed every thread, regardless of topic, with rhetoric that obviously was based purely on a dislike of Hispanics.

But I looked at it and realized that there are only a few posters like that, and in addition, I think a lot of the posts that were the most “hateful” were probably posted by Dem sleeper trolls trying to whip up fear among GOPers and stoke a hatred of Bush or anyone associated with him. The truly bad posts declined after the elections, simply because the Dems had achieved their goal.

I think more control should have been exercised at that time, and that this crowd should not have been allowed to erupt on every thread, as they were. In fact, I think the slowness of the fund raising drive this quarter may indicate that some FR supporters were driven off by this or are reserving judgment for a bit because of the tone of things. It’s true that the really nasty posters were only a small group, but their shrillness and relentlessness made them sound more important than they were. Still, this is a case where the invisible hand of the market will probably correct the situation.
