Mitt Romney on 'Hannity & Colmes' (Romney Forces Beckell to Back Down!)
Fox News ^ | 08/15/07 | Fox News

BOB BECKEL, GUEST CO-HOST: Governor, this is Bob Beckel in for Alan Colmes. You just said something interesting in your response before. You said that those are the kinds of things said by people on the other side. Are you suggesting that Barack Obama is on the other side of the United States on this war? You said the other side. I'm curious what you meant by that.

ROMNEY: I meant the other side of the aisle. Democrats have been saying — for instance, Harry Reid said we lost the war, forgetting of course that we knocked down Saddam Hussein and his military. And then when the surge was only days old, he said that the surge failing or had failed.

Consistently the Democrats are saying things which are playing into the hands of those who oppose our interest in the world and it is unfortunate. I don't believe for a minute these guys really think some of the things that they are saying. I think they hope they are appealing to the far left wing of their party. But I don't think it's going to work.

...

BECKEL: Governor, you're very good at parsing words. I know understand why you're doing as well as you're doing. I don't think that you can play that back and read it any other way than you're suggesting those of us who oppose the war are somehow less of Americans. But let me ask you this question.

ROMNEY: Bob, I am not going to let you say that. Bob, that's not true.

One of my biggest pet peeves about liberal interviewers is their habit of throwing out an accusation as a statement of fact and then moving onto the next question like nothing had happened. I have always wondered why more Republicans don't say what Mitt told Beckel here. Thank heaven someone finally called a liberal on that underhanded tactic! And, Mitt's response was so effective that, after the break, Beckel agrees with Mitt that Obama probably wishes he had his words about Afghanistan back. No apology of course, because, being a liberal means never having to say you're sorry.

Another line I enjoyed from the interview...

HANNITY: There was some criticism of your victory that he worked too hard, he invested time, effort money and he was successful. But it is only because he put the time and money, and I actually found that pretty comical.

I've been listening and reading the accusations of "Romney Bought the Straw Poll" and just have to laugh like Sean apparently did. What do you people think a straw poll is? It's all about organizational strength, building momentum, and fundraising. All of that cost's money. Straw polls have always been that way so, to feign shock that money was involved is just plain funny right there, I don't care who y' are.

ROMNEY: Bob, I am not going to let you say that. Bob, that's not true.

Of course people who oppose the war are great Americans and patriots.

Really?

Beckell is not so much a liberal but more of a democrat party hack. I remember that Fox had him sit in on a Saturday morning finance show (God knows why) and when he started doing his political spin Wayne Rodgers kicked his ass and called him a moron. Beckell looked like he had his feelings hurt.

I’m waiting for a candidate not afraid to tell the party of treason to knock it off and quit enabling our enemies. I want a candidate to challenge the Dems to differentiate their positions from al Quaeda’s. Someone needs to take the gloves off, on national TV, and put these traitors down meanly and openly. Call them out for the increased danger they place on our troops. Tell the U.S.A. that we are behind our soldiers, and the Dems are not. Let’s get it on - truth, honor, and integrity are what we have. The other side has sniping and misinformation and hatred.

Note that he didn't say all. There are those on the Left who truly feel that war is wrong. They are nowhere near the majority, however, nor do I personally think there are very many of them. But they do exist and people who legitimately feel that way have a right, as good Americans, to do so despite the machinations of unscrupulous left-wing (and a few right-wing) politicians.

That would have been fun to see! BTW, I whole heartedly agree with your tag-line. Left or Right, they’re both jerks!

The simple fact is Romney is running a very good campaign, and seems to be getting better, while others like Guiliani have ‘flattened out’...or imploded like McCain or the tinfoil sets’ hero Ron Paul.

This is a three person race, and I suspect that after the first two primaries it will be a two person race, maybe even ‘over’ for all intents and purposes.

We’ll see.

Would someone enlighten me. Why is this Beckel given any credence on anything?? Just what has this nothing accomplished outside of being a flack for the Dums.

This is why they're called the "drive-by media".

“Really?”

Opposing the war doesn’t make one anti-American, nor does it make one Unpatriotic by any means, simply put they have a different opinion of direction, albeit difficult to imagine how being nice/talking/negotiating with Barbarians can possibly succeed.

Me too! I cringe every time someone like Hannity says; “We’re not questioning your patriotism”. Well damnit, I do!

I agree. Some patriotic Americans feel that our military should be protecting OUR borders.

I have always supported our military. But I am sickened by what was done to the Serbs. I am horrified that this country killed over three-thousand Serbs, mostly women and children. The Serbs had never done anything to us and never posed a threat. This was done under the Clinton regime with a big push from Albright.

Yes, one can be a patriotic American while opposing, rightly or wrongly, certain military actions.

I would second that statement. But I really do not care one bit what those two liberals, rommey and becktel, said in their little cat fight, in the end they agree about more than they disagree.
