WASHINGTON - George W. Bush is far from the peak of his power as president, but in one area of social policy the regulation of abortion Bushs agenda is triumphant.
Wednesdays Supreme Court decision upholding the ban on the procedure called partial-birth abortion is a victory for Bush and for social conservatives at a time when theyve had little to celebrate.
In the 5-4 ruling in a case called Gonzales v. Carhart, Bushs two appointees to the high court, Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Samuel Alito supplied the margin of victory.
It confirms that elections have consequences, said Sen. Barbara Boxer, D- Calif. Thursday, alluding to Bushs re-election and the seven GOP Senate wins in 2004 which set the stage for the appointment of Roberts and Alito.
Boxer introduced legislation Thursday which could have the effect of overturning the courts decision.
Wednesdays ruling raises the stakes for the 2008 presidential election, which is almost certain to pit an abortion-rights Democrat against an anti-abortion Republican.

Conservatives and people of faith need to understand the stakes. It really is all about SCOTUS in '08.

It’s also about national security. But SCOTUS is just as important.

Right. WOT (includes border security), SCOTUS, Economy. Not necessarily in that order.

If we’re not careful, we may end up with Hillary as POTUS, which will result in more liberal judges making stupid decisions like “Roe vs. Wade” and “Kelo vs. New London”.
Also, if the court swings to the left, expect them to cite “international law” as precedent, more and more and more...

Giuliani is no conservative and Romney’s conversion to pro-life is suspect...
...but I’m sure that neither of them are capable of appointing the commie leftist traitors that Her Beastliness is absolutely CERTAIN to appoint to the Supreme Court, once she waddles her fat thighs back into the WH.

The liberals on the court are really aging and have 15 years on their conservative counterparts. If the Dems don’t take the white house the next election, they are in real trouble. I think all four liberal judges may retire if a Democrat is elected. If the GOP wins again, they will do all they can to hang on, but time is running against them.

If the GOP wins the WH in '08, they'll have to cart the liberal judges out on a stretcher.

Republicans and conservatives need to get on the same page in order to win. Now is not the time for infantile hissy fits and infighting. The results would be disastrous.
Also, Hillary is hoping that a third party candidate arrives on the seen to split the conservative vote.

Conservatives and people of faith need to understand the stakes. It really is all about SCOTUS in '08. Do you really believe that Rudy Giuliani would appoint justices who would stand up for the Constitution? Do you really believe that he'd appoint someone who would vote to overturn RvW?

It’s quite rare to have 2 simultaneous planned retirements, as well as a retirement in an election year.
There’s only time for 3 retirements at most in a single election cycle.
