Inhofe throws support to Fred Thompson
M. Spencer Green/AP Former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson gives a thumbs up to supporters riding the Sky Gllider at the Iowa State Fair on Friday, Aug. 17, in Des Moines, Iowa.

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe threw his political support to unannounced presidential candidate Fred Thompson today.
Speaking to the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce Tuesday morning, Inhofe said he expects the former actor and Tennessee senator to announce a bid for the presidency soon.
Inhofe said he will support Thompson, when he announces.
Thompson is the only Republican who has a chance to defeat Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., in the general election, Inhofe said.
I suspect that Senator Inhofe's knowledge of Fred's position on illegal aliens is a lot better than either thine or mine.
But don't tell Kimmy that. She'll label you as one of those 'amnesty supporters'. Even though there is NO WAY, you can round up 12 million illegals without Gestapo-type tactics, but I guess she would be willing to do that.
It is not a question of supporting amnesty or not, its a question of reality, of understanding the political environment.
No WAY! She gets special signals from the mothership, telling her that Fred bakes enchilladas for LaRaza every other Tuesday. She KNOWS! Unless she wears the tin foil...
Exactly. Can you even imagine the fiasco that would result? The media showing wailing women and crying children being pulled from doorways. They’d have a hey-day and paint republicans as evil imperialists.
Oh yeah, they do that already.......Well still, mass deportation isn’t going to happen no matter how much anybody wishes for it.
(psssst! I just had a communication from the mothership that the BrainBeam signal will be intensified soon. It’ll happen sometime in September. Pass it on.)
Any that are caught committing crimes other than entering illegally should be put into a camp helping build the fence for whatever length of sentence they get at trial, then deported after they serve their time.
They know damn well that it can’t be done, not in 21st century America. Look at the reaction from Elian. People are not going to want to get rid of the nice kid at the car wash or the lady who minds their clothes or the friendly waiter at the Mexican Restaurant down the street. Middle America will be all about building a fence, it is an object that will keep out the unknowns, but as I have said before the very first images of women and children being hauled off and it is all over, INCLUDING the fence. Put a human face on it and all is mush.
There are a dozen other issues but that’s for another time. It boils down to reality, it ain’t going to happen, and all the slogans, best wishes and screaming will not change that fact. One is not “pro Amnesty” just because they understand that. Conservatism at its core is about reality. Playing the hand dealt while keeping an eye towards and applying to the best that you can the principals you hold dear to bend the outcome as best you can is the hallmark of practical conservatism.
Lock it down, work ‘em in and never let it happen again.
We can’t even take care of 2.8 million criminals in our prisons, where are the facilities and personnel to handle 12 million illegals, many just wanting to work, going to come from? If the masses can’t even be inspired by our own native violent crime to increase budgets for law enforcement and prisons, where the hell is the will going to come from for developing and financing a system to send home Juan and Lucia at El Chico's restaurant down the street. I mean they do have the best burrito in town after all.
I just isn’t that simple...
Not to say maturity, levelheadedness and far-sighted wisdom.
No wonder the Fred thread trolls are unable to relate and experiencing spasms.
I really have not been back to the CFR since they changed Chefs...
Bingo, we have a winner.
I also meant to add to my previous post that this is an excellent observation. People better buy a clue and realize this all has to be done in steps and without upsetting the entire apple cart.
Wow! And you had been so open-minded about Fred before!
Others might want to be suspicious regarding this claim, however. There's this, for example:
"Still, his (Clark's) record in the military is a mixed one. Sen. James Inhofe, a Republican member of the Armed Services Committee, told me that Mr. Clark was known as "Clinton's general" during his time as NATO commander and constantly ran decisions about the Kosovo war directly by the White House."

When did Sen. Inhofe endorse Clark? Do you have a link?
Me neither and I can think of a simple explanation as to why that might be.
I'll tell you two things about that pie:
1) Wesley Clark made the crust, and
2) it is NOT light and flakey!
It particularly disgusts me when republicans (like in the last congress or the RNC) apparently don’t understand tactics and strategy.
grrrr!!
It seemed out of character, because I would think any DC insider would have Clark pegged.
I confess I don’t know a thing about Inhofe endorsing Wesley Clark. Was it at a time he was trying to convince Clark to go GOP? Right after a head injury? I just don’t know.
