I was on another job one time, gas, the trick was to fill the nipple connecting the HG column to the system with lead, the inspector walked in and noticed that the Master had a new, at that time, fiber glass folding rule, he watched the HG column asked for the rule and signed off.

“I would not buy a house made in the last 10 years.” I couldnt agree more. The developers have been putting up some real shi’ite across the country. Including all price points.

By chance I waltzed into a very good deal on a foreclosure...house needed a lot of up grades but was sound.
My advice...find an older existing home...fix it up and enjoy.

Lead joints, Bill? Now we're giving away our age, man.

One of my first jobs was laying water mains back before slip joints. Stuff the joint with oakum, heat lead bars in a portable rig, apply melted lead rigorously.

How are you, lad?

Illegal alien workers with slave driver bosses who profited handily during the housing boom.

I have a very experienced and talented carpenter friend who personally doesn't mind the cheap illegal labor prevalent in his area. He doesn't like the grunt labor of building a house anymore, as he's way beyond that. So what to do for a job?

After the illegals cheaply build a house he gets to come in and fix everything for a hefty price.

I am doing well, today was FReedom day. I pulled the plug after 40 years of making electricy for the ungrateful masses.

No more Unions, no more OSHA, DEP, EPA, Coast Guard, Home Land Security, Boston Cops, Boston Fire Department, and above all no more Vice Prezes with their heads up their collective asses. I am surprised that I don't drink more than I do.

On the high side I was voted by my Class, in the rather lousy prep school I attended, to be the most likely to be poor and live under a bridge, bad prediction

How are you and The Madam doing in the Communist State that you live in. That Bald headed B*stard is going to destroy the place, I have noticed a lot of VERY STRANGE bumper stickers at Market Basket on cars with white plates.

Bill, retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. You'll still be looking for "stuff" to do.

I am surprised that I don't drink more than I do.

Hey, so is everybody else!

On the high side I was voted by my Class, in the rather lousy prep school I attended, to be the most likely to be poor and live under a bridge, bad prediction

Geez, I only got Class Clown, which was a fairly good indicator of things to come.

Baldacci? If there's anything worse than a commie, it's a stupid commie and Baldy goes to the head of the class on that one. Colorless, personality deprived and dumb, the perfect bureaucrat for the population.

I could see this happening even with an inspector who bothers to eyeball everything. The inspector is going to look for the rough in plumbing i.e. the drain pipe and the valves. Then on a later visit he will see the finished job with jacuzzi installed. He has no way of knowing that the jacuzzi’s drain never met up with the drain pipe. He assumes that self interest will keep the builders from such stupidity.

I used to live accross the street from a retired plumber. He told me that years ago, like 30 years ago, a kid working for him roughed in some work and went to lunch, without soldering the joints. When he came back he forgot all about that little detail and went happily on his way. When pressure was restored, the pipes obviously leaked profusely. He "made it right". Still kinda funny.

There is nothing new here, if you're buying a new house, buy from a reputable builder. If he makes a mistake he'll fix it.

You do realize that your attitude was prevalent since at least the 70's. And probably back to the pyramids.

They used to frame walls 16 inches on center. They used to brace floor joists to one another.

Hardwood floors? You used to be able to play a game of marbles on them. Now, the beveled edges make them dirt catchers and uncomfortable to walk on in bare feet.

Metesky, if I can get my fellow Semifree NHerites off their ass and do A FReep my life will be complete. I am a swamp Yankee and stubborn, but these people are hard to get motivated.

Class Clown? I don't think that La Madam, nice Irish girl that she is would put up with that, my mother was Black Irish, Northern Ireland, and they can motivate.

Even when she motivates me, she doesn't end the torture...

She's threatening to take me to the American Folk Festival tonight, make me drink beer and listen to Cajun music and live blues. Maybe I can sneak over to the "traditional Arab music" and ask if that's the music they perform clitorechtimies too.

Metesky, my FRiend, every woman requires a man to make miserable. A pal of mine asks this question, "Why do women close their eyes during sex?" The answer is, they don't want to see a man having a pleasurable experience.

They would find out that that you are of Greek heritage and have a genetic hatred of ragheads, as we of English descent have of the Frogs, and charge you with a hate crime going back to Basil the Second, ex post facto, and that Bald Headed Commie, in a triumph of civil rights enforcement, would have you drawn and quartered in Disgusta, in violation of the Fifth Amendment, and have various parts displayed in Lewiston for the edification of the Somali's.
