I was a delegate, but why should I go and spend many hundreds of dollars to listen to 1% candidates? If they wanted good representation they should have mailed a ballot to all former delegates with return postage. Sorry, but it appears this event will be a total flop. It’s no where near representative of primary voters in Texas.

Let me tell you why you should: Especially in an election like this, when many of the top tier candidates have serious questions, it's important to look at all of the candidates in the race. We're lucky this year to have a batch of decent "also rans" with solid platforms. Also, you note that few people will be voting-- well, that would make your vote all the more powerful in the poll's importance. Regarding your assertion that it would be a "flop," well, Ames was nowhere near "representative" of the populace of Iowa with all the supporters being bussed in from all over the state and the moneyball, but people still considered that an important piece of the campaign, especially Huckabee.

In summary, go out and vote, even if it is meaningless. An impressive finish by a so-called "also ran" could give a much-needed jumpstart to one of the struggling campaigns.

The best way to make sure that the Straw poll has no effect is to not even show up on Saturday.

It’s gonna be so embarrassing if Iowa had 14000 and Texas can’t muster half that many.

Why embarrassing?...... Anyone in Iowa could purchase a ticket and attend. The Texas fiasco requires one to be a former delegate, state-national, in order to vote. Limit who attends and exclude others.... keep it amongst the chosen few.... no thanks

Not entirely.
Though contemporary strains of the illness are far weaker than they were in the early ‘90s, suffers can occasionally still be prone to a spoiler relapse.

This poll is really insignificant and will be of no real value. Well, unless of course, Rudy McRomneyson wins or does well. Then it will have been quite the meritorious event.

How hard can it be to be a delegate or alternate delegate over 8 years from your Senate District?

Not hard if you think it’s of any value. But that’s not the point. The point is they wanted a fund raiser. They chose to basically eliminate the candidates from coming and allowing them to encourage or fund their supporters who may not have been a delegate in the past to attend and vote. Dumb, if you want a fund raiser and then schedule it the first weekend after school starts for many districts.

..Romney essentially "bought" Iowa, but this one in Ft. Worth isn't for sale, if I read it correctly.

AND DH and his campaign have been in Texas a lot and are taking this one very seriously...

Baloney. If there was any agenda - they wanted the conservative base of die-hard Republicans to attend. Guess that’s what we’ll get.

Really, do you remember how Iowa voted in ‘04? How about how they voted at the Straw Poll?
