2 Va. counties OK immigration crackdown

By SARAH KARUSH, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 32 minutes ago

Ines Olivia Martinez wonders if her family will be denied medical care. Even her mentally disabled 13-year-old son has been anxiously pointing out police cars amid fears of a local crackdown on illegal immigrants. Resolutions to deny a potentially wide range of public services to illegal immigrants have thrust two northern Virginia counties into the nation's immigration debate.

The measures passed in July in Prince William and Loudoun counties join a flurry of recent efforts by local governments nationwide that believe the federal government has not done enough to stop illegal immigration.

But while other jurisdictions have focused largely on landlords and employers who knowingly rent to and hire illegal immigrants, the Virginia resolutions take a more direct approach. The National Association of Counties says the two counties are the first it knows of to pass measures aimed at denying services.

They probably will not be the last. Officials in several other Virginia counties have said they plan to follow suit, and the sponsor of the Prince William resolution says he has gotten e-mails from all over the country praising his efforts.

The new approach comes as some jurisdictions back off plans to crack down on landlords and employers following a federal court ruling last month that struck down a law in Hazleton, Pa. The much-copied law would have imposed fines on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and denied business permits to those who employ them.

The northern Virginia measures are also likely to face legal challenges. The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund has threatened to sue Prince William County. Other groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union, say they fear service restrictions will result in discrimination,

I have a tear in my eye from worry that my county WON’T enact the same legislation and the illegals are coming here!

I've lived in Northern Kentucky for 9 years. It's only been the last two years or so that we've had a large influx of Hispanics. If we hurry to enact these laws, maybe my area won't see the degree of (easily forseeable) damage as the rest of you.

But I have no faith in that happening.

“Ines Olivia Martinez wonders if her family will be denied medical care. Even her mentally disabled 13-year-old son has been anxiously pointing out police cars amid fears of a local crackdown on illegal immigrants”

Saul, the son of Elvira is supposed to have ADD, which could be called a mental disability..

Saul cant pay attention in English because although he has lived here for 8 years, he has never learnt English..

However Saul pays attention wonderfully in Spanish to the point where he can learn and give polished speeches demanding amnesty and US Govt freebies for illegal aliens..

The Martinez boy might have that same ADD-in-English handicap...

My immediately thought was “he does very well for a mentally disabled boy, he can identify police and understand that he and his family are breaking the US laws..” someone here already pointed that out..

If I had broken the law and was a fugitive on the lam, I would be busy hiding my butt..free health care would be the last thing on my mind..this female illegal alien is not that concerned about being deported..

>> “It broke my heart,” the 41-year-old Mexico City native said of the measure. “We were all thinking there would be an amnesty” declared by the federal government.<<

I have noticed some supposedly conservative radio talk jocks (e. g. Mike McConnell) who claim that the defeat of the senate amnesty bill accomplished nothing, and that they will get amnesty anyway.

I disagree. Many “sanctuary cities” have been violating federal law on the assumption that amnesty would pass and they would be ahead in the game. Now it looks like some cities are rethinking that assumption.

Also, since the New Jersey schoolyard murders, the state AG has reversed the “don’t ask policy.” NYC repealed its 1989 sanctuary resolution.

In the House of Representatives, as amendment to the latest homeland security bill would have cut off aid to sanctuary cities but was voted down.

2 steps forward, one step back....

And me once.

It hasn't happened to me ...yet. However in Indy last night, there were four murders. The poilce have yet to release the names of the victims or the perps. That tells me all I need to know. Just yesterday, an illegal was caught on the Northwest side here, raping a 5 year old girl.

So disgusting and totally irritating. When are we all going to decide we have had enough of it?

It will be like losing weight over the long haul. We will have a few days of weight loss, then some gain, then loss, then gain. We will have some setbacks, but overall, big picuture/long term our advances will outnumber them, so that the over trend will be towards victory for the Patriot side, and defeat for the Illegal Alien invaders and their facilitators (traitors) among our midst.

The super rich in mexico need to export their poverty or else be faced with another revolution where the poor take over the assets of the super rich. We will be faced with a revolution when all these people realize that they outnumber the rest of us. This is a huge powder keg........................

He also said that the State of North Carolina had only 7 INS agents to arrest illegals and there was absolutely nothing they could do, as they were mainly wrapped up in paperwork and red tape.

Well, ICE is now doing better by about 700%! IIRC, about this time two years ago they only had one (sic) ICE agent in the entire state to make arrests.

As you well know by now, there are hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens in this state - not to mention the Hispanic gangs, such as MS-13.

Naturally, they are all running around freely smashing into everybody with unlicensed, uninsured vehicles and then showing up at the nearest emergency room for "free" treatment. They almost never get arrested, even for vehicular homicide. If it starts to look dicey when somebody dies after the accident, they flee the state. Getting a drivers license is no problemo as all they need is a rental receipt or utility bill - but many of them don't even bother doing that. The state even provides a "free" interpreter to "help" them with the written test.

Then, there is the constant problem of stabbings and shootings with "no witnesses" and eventually a week later a name comes up of somebody who has disappeared back to Mexico (or, more likely, another state). This state is out of control.

But, I suppose what you are seeing is "progress", of a sort. Maybe by this time next year they will have ten ICE agents who can then spend their days doing paperwork and unknotting endless red tape?

"Critics say the resolutions are a racist reaction to profound demographic changes"

Well,
Yeah,
"demographic change" is one way to put it.

And those critics are definitely "racist" in believing that they constitute
(a) a race, and
(b) a race with rights beyond those of other races and legal residents.

I am hearing you loud and clear. The illegals are laughing in our faces, the government has lost all ability to protect our nation internally and construction workers as well as tradesmen in general are getting screwed. Getting screwed not by illegals but by our cowardice law makers that refuse to do their jobs and follow the federal rules on the books. We citizens are constantly threatened to obey the law from taxes to too much water use but we allow a bunch of illegal foreigners to run butt wild in this country gobbling up jobs left and right.

I got Pi##ed off one day because the illegals kept standing out in the middle of the street trying to flag passer by's to give them work. I had to swerve around these jerks three times in one day going back and forth to a job. I went to the sheriff sub station and asked if they would get the idiots off the street before there is an accident. The 6'-5" officer was my height and stared down at the ground as he told me that he could do nothing about it and that they were not really hurting anyone. I was yelling at him that this country has gone down the toilet and it is time that police officers do their jobs and pick these illegal foreigners up and ship them home. He told me to contact immigration. Buck passing pussies.

I keep telling fellow construction workers that our jobs and wages are hanging by a thread if we don't run out the illegal competition.

The Iraqis look just like Mexicans and why our government allows the borders open in pure insanity.

>> Deane said the measure could diminish immigrants’ trust in police and make them reluctant to cooperate as witnesses. He also said denying recreational services could lead to a rise in the number of young people turning to crime.<<

The trick will be to do this in such a way that legal immigrants trust in the police is not diminished because we treat everyone who is in country properly with full respect.
