Conservatism works every time its tried. France has obviously been waiting a long time for somebody to come along and smack down the scumbag socialists a little bit. I believe that country is regaining some pride.
Don’t get too far off the porch on this guy just yet. Not knocking him, but don’t go having a Gorbasm over him so soon.
After all Sarko has accomplished in just 100 days, including ending the miserable state of French relations with the US , I think we can be confident this is no ordinary politician.
He has come through so far on his promises, and obviously the French approve, so why should we be encouraged and optimistic?
Le crap?
CONGRATULATIONS FRANCE!
No, la verite!
Just wait until he proposes cutting back on workers benefits/relaxing labor laws then we’ll see how popular he is and how real France’s turn to the right is.
can anyone give me a recap on what he’s done in the last 100 days?
he seems like he has the potential to be a good ally, so im wondering why the french seem to approve of him.
As a Le Figaro article in the same edition says, the French people know Sarkozy wants to change things (or as google translates it, "The man of the promised rupture") and they support change.
I think we'll see when the universities get back from holiday.

Your ordinary Frenchman is sick of 60 years of socialism and uncontrolled immigration. Sarkozy is a breath of fresh air.
He got the nurses out of Libya. Cut a nuke deal with Gadafi. Came to see GW. Sent his minister to Iraq.

I hope that Sarko can truly keep the “positive things” going for him as well as set an example for the U.S. to, hopefully, follow for the U.S. ‘08 elections. Remember, it wasn’t that long ago after the Republicans successfully took over Congress on January 1995 that things eventually got worse for House Speaker Newt Gingrich and the Republicans in Congress, and all of their mistakes should never be repeated! I truly don’t want the U.S. to ever become a socialistic country at any time in the future, and this might truly happen as soon as in January ‘09 if conservatives fail to point this possibility out to the majority of U.S. voters prior to November 4, 2008!
I understand. A “conservative” in France is about equal to Bernie Sanders.
Still, from where France is, Sarko at least appears to be helping the place reverse direction.
And if the socialists (communists) don’t like him, I do.
Still my personnel opinion of french is that they are lower then dirt.
I’m just glad the French voters rejected Sego-socialism. Of course, by virtue of the multiple party system, the majority also rejected Sarkozy in the first round. ;’)
