"Like yesterday, Thompson devoted a large portion of his opening speech to national security, but today he also talked of new support coming from the Iraqis, who he says have had a taste of Al Qaeda and are now siding with American forces. Speaking to reporters, Thompson attacked his Democratic counterparts for not seeing any positive change. "There are some folks on the Democratic side who have become so vested politically on the feelings of the left wing of their party that no good news is going to be good enough for them, and they'll constantly concentrate on the negativity. But again, we all have to look down the road, what is going to make a more secure situation for the United States of America."

He speaks as a conservative and genuinely does not care if his message is liked or not.
Thank goodness, it is.
Fred can say he loves this country and we believe him. The dems would say, "Of course I do, BUT..."
This Fred Thompson sounds like a conservative to me. A conservatuive who can win the nomination and beat any Democrat opponent.
What I like about Fred is he’s going out and making the conservative case, whether its the war in Iraq or appointing strict constructionist judges. He’s already stepping in to the President’s role, and doing a better job of it than the President.
It’s exactly what we need, and something I’ve not seen much from the other candidates, Mitt Romney in particular. McCain has done a bit of it lately when it comes to Iraq, but he isn’t nearly as effective a communicator as Thompson.
This is an important distinction to make between candidates. IMO, the candidate who runs a Presidential campaign will win the primary (and the election). All the others are looking like wannabes while Fred is displaying the characteristics from the get-go.
There is a bumper sticker in there somewhere.
FRED in '08.
For Those Who Love America
I work with NOTHING but libs, and when this subject comes up, and it will, I will be sure to say who I'm voting for. When they get over their outrage and ask why, I am going to say ONLY this:
"Because I like this country."
I won't even need to say LOVE (which I do)--LIKE will actually have their widdle PC Hard Drives grinding away as they try to figure that one out. Because while they could say "Hey, I love this country, too," they'll be baffled by "like".
I've got this all planned out. Gotta, when you're living amongst the loonie libs.
It is working from what I can see in my travels among the normal folks, ie those who don’t live and breath this stuff like me and my fellow idiots on FreeRepublic;-)
