My thoughts exactly.

First time seeing you post. Welcome, (though you've been here a little while) from one mountn man to another.

This story has long legs. If would be kind of fun, if a “Hsu Pool” was set up by a freeper here to take bets on how long Hsu will be around. I’d bet $50 on that pool. Maybe even a $100, just for the fun of it. It could be a novel fundraiser by someone.

I started one here

So questions about the source of his money and his rise in influential circles remained when news of his past began to emerge last month.

"Golly gee," say the NY Times employees. "We'll never know. Oh well."

You don’t have to wish him dead - he’s not going to be allowed to live, so all the wishing in the world won’t matter anyway.

Might as well place your bet - you aren’t pulling the trigger, just putting your faith in the consistency of evil.

That’s 5 to 7 news cycles.

I’m not sure that’s going to be enough. You got to whack him before the first primary, but you can’t whack him so soon that it peels off the top off all those other incidents. Plus someone stole Kathleen Willey’s manuscript the other day.

I say 20 to 30 days, sooner if we bomb Iran. We bomb Iran, HSU dies after the first 24 hours of sorties.

I give you 20% chance of being right, 1 in 5. 1 dollar gets you 5.

Republicans didn’t kill Jack Abramoff. If HSU dies sooner rather than later, then the sun comes pouring in on all things Clinton. Obama will make sure of it. Dean might too.

Careful of paper cuts!

Paper cuts can be very nasty, doncha know!

Keep this perp away from paper, forks, knives, cause
ya jes know that he’s going to die from “unknown causes” within the next few weeks.

The “Arkanside disease” can strike an able bodied person at the height of their career: a terrible tragedy

Has he been tested for polonium 210 or other poisons?

I don't think so. On the other hand, he was observed reading a newspaper in his hospital room.

With the lights out.

blindsided candidates

Love the way the NY Slime cannot resist propagandizing in their supposed "news" coverage. You KNOW full well they would not be referring to "blindsided candidates" if Hsu had been giving to Republicans

Seems to me, the Clinton's are getting a little rusty...

Just remember,

Life ain't easy, for A Boy Named HSU...

http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/johnnycash/aboynamedsue.html

"A Boy Named Sue"

My daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me "Sue."

Well, he must o' thought that is quite a joke
And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk,
It seems I had to fight my whole life through.
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue."

Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean,
My fist got hard and my wits got keen,
I'd roam from town to town to hide my shame.
But I made a vow to the moon and stars
That I'd search the honky-tonks and bars
And kill that man who gave me that awful name.

Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry,
I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew.
At an old saloon on a street of mud,
There at a table, dealing stud,
Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me "Sue."

Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad
From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had,
And I knew that scar on his cheek and
the gleam in his evil eye.
He was big and bent and gray and old,
And I looked at him and my blood ran cold
And I said: "My name is 'Sue!' How do you do!
Now you're gonna die!!"

Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down, but to my surprise,
He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear.
But I busted a chair right across his teeth
And we crashed through the wall and into the street
Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer.

I know that I've fought tougher men
But I really can't remember when,
He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile.
I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss,
He went for his gun and I pulled mine fust,
He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile.

And he said: "Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along.
So I give ya that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make you strong."

He said: "Now you just fought one hell of a fight
And I know you hate me, and you got the right
To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do.
But ya ought to thank me, before I die,
For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye
Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you "Sue.'"

I got all choked up and I threw down my gun
And I called him my pa, and he called me his son,
And I came away with a different point of view.
And I think about him, now and then,
Every time I try and every time I win,
And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him
Bill or George! Anything but Sue! I still hate that name!

( And just BTW, FWIW- I edited those lyrics to the way I heard them in a live performance, many years ago, to reflect what I recall hearing... )

From the NYT: So questions about the source of his money and his rise in influential circles remained when news of his past began to emerge last month.

No, you slugs at the NYT. News of Hsu's past did not "begin to emerge." It was actively uncovered and exposed by Brody Mullins and Ianthe Dugan at the WSJ doing slogging, original research. The LA Times and San Francisco Chronicle added their own, along with bloggers like Flip Pidot who did more original research and followup, scouring municipal records and personally walked to the addresses Hsu claimed for his business.

Then again, the NYT may have known about Hsu for a while and spiked the story.

Pretend the worldwide atrocities don’t exist when the clintons are in power. Report it all in the harshest possible terms if they are not in office. Journalism 101 these days.
Half the truth is often a great lie. - Benjamin Franklin
IOW, truth is necessary but not sufficient to prove lack of bias. The conceit that we are under some sort of obligation to believe the AP is completely without foundation. And as for the conceit that the AP is not only the truth but the whole truth . . . The truly rational response to that is,
The wisest and most cautious of us all frequently gives credit to stories which he himself is afterwards both ashamed and astonished that he could possibly think of believing . . .

It is acquired wisdom and experience only that teach incredulity,
and they very seldom teach it enough.
- Adam Smith

This whole "objective journalism" shtick is a product of the Associated Press news monopoly which is a result of the telegraph as an instantaneous transmission system with a low bandwidth (Sound familiar? Broadcasting censorship by the FCC is justified on the basis of "scarcity of bandwidth").

The AP was so obviously a monopoly that it needed a cover story, and that story was that the AP was objective.

Why Broadcast Journalism is
Unnecessary and Illegitimate
