The cops did not run his name? That should have been a standard procedure.

I hope that the dashboard camera that usually are on board state police cruisers caught his image so that an APB/BOLO can be issued.

CC: John Walsh, national TV news, etc..

It boggles the mind why the trooper didn't have the guy cool his heels while he ran is name and driver's license number, tags, VIN, etc. through NCIC, which I would hope is linked to DHS databases....

I thought we were at war with terrorists? Why the hell would we even allow people on a terror watch list to be in our country?

Ask him questions and then simply let him go?

Are we going to start detaining every tourist who takes pictures of a bridge, or the Statue of Liberty, or the Washington Monument, or any other national landmark that happens to be both a tourist attraction and a potential terrorism target. Has legislation been passed that makes photography of landscapes or landmarks an offense that is probable cause for detention?

UPDATED INFO!

NJ police caught, released terror suspect sizing up I-80 bridge

A man who was questioned by New Jersey State Police on Monday and then let go after he was found taking photos of the Delaware Water Gap bridge was later discovered to be on the FBI’s national terrorist watch list.

The unidentified man, of Middle Eastern descent, claimed he was on vacation with his family after he was spotted on the New Jersey side of the Delaware River photographing the bridge, which connects Interstate 80 between New Jersey and Pennsylvania, said Monroe County District Attorney E. David Christine.

The man’s identity and the degree of suspicion attached to him by federal anti-terror officers were not immediately available.

A New Jersey State Police trooper based in Hope, N.J. said today he had no information on the incident, but Pennsylvania officials said they were notified by New Jersey late Monday night, hours after the suspect was discovered to be on the FBI list.

Pennsylvania’s Homeland Security Office in Harrisburg was also notified, as was the FBI.

Or an Amish Extremist. The buggy at the side of the Interstate would have been a dead giveaway.

The trooper could have detained him for littering after the horse dropped a big load of ka-ka....

The Patriot Act is harassing the populace, while the police are saying, "have a nice day" to suspicious persons.

The primary job of a sheepdog is to keep the sheep in line, not protect them from wolves.

Never forget that fact.

Used to have a hipo friend who told of stopping an arab taking pictures of the nuke plant in our state.

I asked him if the states coordinated that kind of information with the feds.

He just looked at me like I had invented sliced bread.

I don’t know that the data base officers use would have the watch list attached to it.

Should be, but can anyone here confirm it is available when an officer runs a name or ID out of their car?

Ummm... because some of them are citizens of this country. And, believe it or not, many of the people on the watch lists are not terrorists, even if they may look like it or have suggestive names. That's why it's called a 'watch list' and not a 'deport list' or an 'arrest list.'

"Pennsylvania’s Homeland Security Office in Harrisburg was also notified, as was the FBI."

Sleep well, komrades. The Authorities have it all under control....

This is the part that gets me;

Pennsylvania police officials say they were miffed, and concerned, over the apparent time lapse in reporting the incident.

Capt. William Parrish, of the Stroud Area Regional Police in Stroudsburg, said he received notification at midnight Monday. “We were told there was a guy in the area and we needed to raise our level of awareness,” Parrish said.

Christine said he didn’t learn of the incident until Tuesday.

“I’m disturbed that there appears no clear line of communication [from New Jersey] to the local police and myself about the situation,” Christine said. “I intend to make an inquiry that it doesn’t happen again.”

Oh BS... The last flight I took, I found out my name was on a terrorist watch list, so they asked me for my drivers license, and told me that my birth date did not match. When you have a common name, it occurs.
BTW, the only affect is that I can not check in for a flight on line, I have to go to the counter and show my ID.

The Florida terrorist duo who were busted with pipe bombs claimed they were going to have some fun celebrating a birthday on the beach.

I don’t like the Islamic Supremacists’ idea of fun.
