LAKELAND | It's not the big sit-down dinner and speech at the Yacht Club that local Republican Party planners had hoped for, but the former U.S. senator from Tennessee and now presidential candidate, Fred Thompson, will be in Lakeland at 11 a.m. Saturday to speak to those attending a gun show at The Lakeland Center.
Supporters said they hope he will return for a longer visit later in the campaign. But for now, Thompson, who is seeking the Republican nomination for president, is on a three-day, whirlwind tour of the state beginning today and ending Saturday...
Thompson will be met at The Lakeland Center by state Sen. Paula Dockery, R-Lakeland, who has endorsed his candidacy and is recruiting other elected Republicans to do the same.
The Thompson campaign trip will cover stops in Jacksonville, The Villages, Celebration, Miami, Cape Coral and New Port Richey today and Friday.
Saturday, his first stop will be The Lakeland Center, followed by an appearance at the University of Florida football game in Gainesville.
Despite the fact that it will the Florida-Tennessee game, Thompson will have a host of Florida supporters to greet him there, including state Rep. Seth McKeel, R-Lakeland, who has endorsed Thompson's campaign.

Dual at high noon..R v T?
Every gun show I have ever been to prohibits carrying a loaded weapon, concealed or not (unless you are a police officer or deputy providing security). The main reason seems to be the fear that someone will fumble a loaded gun and it will go off. And everyone is afraid of a lawsuit if loaded guns were allowed and some accident happened.
Is packing.org no longer available? I just tried but cannot get their site.
This will get the gun-grabbers a howling no doubt!!
FRed just went up another notch!
Will Fred pledge to do something about the ridiculous ammo prices at the show? And the dumbass ATF regs?
Wonder if Rudy will show up at any
“Will Fred pledge to do something about the ridiculous ammo prices at the show? And the dumbass ATF regs?”
Will Romney push to remove the present problem of not allowing ammo purchases with our food stamps.
“Dual at high noon..R v T?”
Something tells me R would not go for that.
“inquiring minds need to know”
These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.
Pandering to gun owners, huh?
Okay, I’m sold.
He/she/it might THINK that, but her/his/its candidate (Flip Flopney) only gets on Fred’s right when he flips over there before flopping back left again.
I thought it was Hunter not the republican john edwards twin.

Guns shows are not listed as a pohibited carry place in FL law. I suppose they can ASK but you don’t have to comply.
That’s why they call it concealed. ;)
