Will Voters Embrace a Clinton Dynasty?
Real Clear Politics ^ | September 14, 2007 | Steven Stark

There's a strange debate dominating the Democratic campaign so far. Hillary Clinton's calling card seems to be the experience that she possesses and that Barack Obama lacks. " 'Change' is just a word if you don't have the strength and experience to make it happen," she told an audience this past week, before promptly making the line the centerpiece of a new ad in New Hampshire and Iowa. "Hillary is the best-prepared to be president of any non-incumbent I have ever had a chance to vote for," the clearly biased Bill Clinton has said repeatedly on the trail this summer.

The contrast with the "inexperienced" Obama is meant to be obvious. But is it true? Mrs. Clinton has only been in the Senate for one term, not much more than Obama has. And Obama served in the state legislature before that, which Hillary never did. The only experience she has that Obama lacks is that she married a guy who was elected president and, as a result, got to live and work in the White House.

And that's the difficulty.

The idea that spouses gain qualifications through their partners' jobs is a radically new idea in this country. And no one seems to be debating it -- at least not publicly. It's not really about Hillary per se. We don't name CEO spouses the next head of the company when their partner steps down, any more than we let the wives or husbands of doctors perform brain surgery because they happen to be married to someone who does.

Yet that's the Clinton argument: Bill's record is Hillary's record. In the press, it's being couched as a form of feminism meets 21st century new-age thinking:

There are examples of something like this in other countries- Eva Peron, Imelda Marcos, Elena Ceausescu, Jiang Qing (aka Madame Mao). But they aren’t good examples.

I believe she is saying that Bill is an idiot and she is the real brains of the Clinton years. She may be telling the truth.

God help us. I knew back in the 90’s they had this planned. I remember all the poo-poohing from people (including Rush) that she wouldn’t run for senator, then that she wouldn’t get elected senator, then that she wouldn’t ever run for prez knowing she had a seat for life in N.Y. etc;etc;etc.........I just cannot believe that it’s looking so damned EASY and inevitable for them. I’ve cringed over the last four years every time some moron here said “Bring it on-we want the Clintons.” Remember the old adage, be careful what you wish for. Because now they’re here. And we may have them....again. For another eight years. Eight MORE years of division, emotion, and hatred, rather than electing someone (on either side)who mught possibly be a healer. I honestly dont think the country can stand it much longer-we’ve been divided down the middle and filled with hate for the ‘other side’ now since about the middle of 1992.

Lots of people look back on the Clinton years with fondness as a time of lots of jobs, lots of money and no war. Still many other people are in complete denial about world events and would rather talk about a War on Weather than a War on Terror... (e.g., "other countries are none of our business", "Washington said avoid foreign entanglements", "some people aren't ready for democracy", "use less oil and the world will like us better", etc., etc.)

All of these people will vote for Hillary either actively by directly voting for her or passively by either not voting or by throwing their vote to a candidate who can't win but makes them feel good about themselves. Yup, a Clinton dynasty is entirely possible.

Experience wise, I would say Hillary and Obama are running neck and neck.

Neither one of them rate a nod.

I think I’m more concerned with the trend that this article points out about how the media is embracing (and hence promoting) the idea of “co-Presidencies. Many Americans are ignorant enough to accept this concept. But like the article said, you wouldn’t put the wife of a brain surgeon in the O.R. after the surgeon had retired, would you?

“Experience wise, I would say Hillary and Obama are running neck and neck. Neither one of them rate a nod.”

And the wheels on the bus for both of them are in danger of falling off. The campaign trail has not been nice. In just the last two weeks:
Hillary has been torn between appeasing the moderates that she will need, and appeasing the loony left at Move-on.org who will spend countless millions running commercials in the candidates names. Then you have the fund-raising scandal, Yikes!. Then Oprah saying she will not invite Hillary on her show topped of a bad couple of weeks. Even Bush got a 10% bump when he appeared on Oprah.
For Obama, his campaign trail gaffs are going to be used against him by both Hillary, and the RNC. His comment about ethnic cleansing being a good thing, will come back to haunt him over and over. He is not shaken from his bring the troops home now stance and makes it clear where he stands on that. Because of that he will not win any states in the South if nominated.

Who is making Hillary’s clothing? Her jackets are exactly the same length every time.

Depends on who you’re describing as voters. If, by “voters,” you mean commies, felons, illegals, dead people, and perpetrators of vote fraud, then answer is an emphatic “Yes!”

Maybe I should clarify...

This pic was her way of saying “yes I have an agenda, my goal is the WH, and I have no qualms around stomping on you to get there.” While running for Senate, her critics were loudly accusing her of being a carpetbagger (a politician who goes to a jurisdiction solely becuase that’s the easiest place to get elected, not because they give a whit about that constituency) - so at one appearance she hauled a carpet bag on stage, dropped it on the podium, and gave this “yes I am, you’re right, and there’s not a **** thing you’re gonna do about it” look.

Sometimes the best way to deal with critics is to say “you’re right, and I don’t care.”

The chutzpa embodied in this pic is staggering.

“Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton.....will the sheeple accept it.....YES...they are STUPID!”

While true, the disaster of W’s presidency will not help her at all. I think people are going to say “do we want another one?”

Yes, and in 2016 Chelsea Clinton ___ will be past 35. The American people will never tire of these clowns. They are funnier than the “great one” Jackie Gleason was.
