Clinton Spars With Petraeus on Credibility
New York Sun ^ | September 12, 2007 | Eli Lake

WASHINGTON — Senator Clinton squared off yesterday with her possible challenger for the White House in 2012, General David Petraeus, and came closer than any of her colleagues to calling the commander of the multinational forces in Iraq a liar.

Using blunter language than any other Democrat in the last two days, Mrs. Clinton told General Petraeus that his progress report on Iraq required "a willing suspension of disbelief."

Referring to the charts General Petraeus brought to the House and Senate this week, Mrs. Clinton said, "Although the charts tell part of the story, I don't think they tell the whole story." She said the "bottom-up" political reconciliation was "anecdotal" and that the success in Anbar province, where sheiks turned on Al Qaeda, started before the surge.

At the end of her speech, Mrs. Clinton pointed to what she saw as a discrepancy in the general's responses to questions from other senators about whether he would recommend that America keep 130,000 troops in Iraq a year from now if no progress was made toward national reconciliation.

...Senator Clinton squared off yesterday with her possible challenger for the White House in 2012, General David Petraeus..

Not true. Gen. Patraeus was not allowed to say a word until he was asked a question, ~ 7 minutes into her diatribe, and then only allowed to answer the question that was asked.

There was no 'square off'.

“Not sure it was mentioned in this article, but Hillary’s pretentious remark “willing suspension of disbelief” was not at all original. Some commentators seemed puzzled by the phrase as if it were something new. But it’s a common phrase used to describe what one must do to enjoy reading fiction, all fiction including the best or worst available.”

Doesn’t “suspension of disbelief” actually mean she believes the report? Isn’t the phrase supposed to be “suspension of belief” as in reading fiction, you are required to suspend your belief that people cannot fly?

As soon as a poll show that American’s approve, she will change her mind.

No core beliefs, just shift with the wind.

Yes, great point. It's the phrase that pretentious middle-aged women say during their weekly fiction book club meetings. It's also used by second and third tier book reviewers. LOL. You can tell Hillary is surrounded by women advisors - it even shows in the lingo.

Clinton’s own credibility is deeply flawed. It is a partisan attack and she should formally charge him with lying to Congress if she believes he is lying.

Don’t worry. If she wins the D nomination, she will surely revise her statements again, because her advisors will tell her the hard core left is locked up, and that she needs to appeal to more moderate voters.

This latest position on Iraq is just her latest flavor of the month.

Yes, currently she is trying to lock up the nomination. The problem is, who knows what she really thinks. The only constant about Hillary Clinton is her lack of consistency.

According to Google:

That willing suspension of disbelief for the moment, which constitutes poetic faith. ~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge

PLEASE NOTE: I AM NOT claiming there is anything poetic or faithful about The Hildabeaste. Quite the opposite. So don’t flame me or bomb me with FReep mail :)

Hillary was playing to her “nutroots” when she questioned Patraeus.. It was a convincing performance, but she won’t take it any further.

The phrase “willing suspension of disbelief” was coined by Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1817.
