Chafee no longer a Republican

Former Repubican Sen. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, who lost his seat in last year’s Democratic congressional wave, announced that he has left the Republican Party, according to the Providence Journal.

“It’s not my party any more,” he said.

In his seven-year tenure in the Senate, Chafee frequently split from his party on key legislation. He opposed the war in Iraq, voted with Democrats on estate tax and HMO regulation legislation and refused to support the confirmation of U.N. Ambassador John Bolton.

In the past, Chafee had insisted that he would remain in the Republican Party. But he did not endorse President Bush for re-election in 2004, and faced a fierce primary challenge from his right in last year’s Senate race.

Chafee and his father, former Sen. John Chafee, held Rhode Island’s Senate seat in Republican hands for 30 years. National Republicans poured money into the state last year to aid Chafee’s re-election, but he lost to Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).

“Its not my party any more”

Hmmmm. That’s what I told the Republican party the last time they called for money, after they supported Chafee.

I hadn't realized Lincoln was ever in the GOP.

He never acted like it.

Has he found a party that will accept him as a member?

No loss. A real Republican in Rhode Island would have been torn to shreds.

The Tupperwares would take him. If he could learn to keep his mouth sealed.

Oh, now that we know he was a liar it's pretty apparent he belonged with the Demon-crats.

Since when has he been a Republican?

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck it must be a duck, even if you name it Fido.

“It’s not my party any more,” he said.

Why, thank your sir! Now, pick up your parting gift at the door, and please never darken it again.

Good eventually trumps evil. So someone who was never good, admits to evil. This is a non-story.....

One of many reasons why I no longer contribute to the RNC and RNSC.

I agree with you, Mad Tom. I won't contribute to any fund that supports RINOs.

Former Repubican Sen. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island was recently diagnosed with progressive dementia, as a result of mercury poisoning from a consistant diet of liberal fish.

Poor lincoln.

Our prayers go out to him!

The thing that really bends me is the Republican 'establishment' who dump millions into supporting the likes of this dirtbag over solid Conservative Republicans. I'm sure we all could name more than a handful of backstabbing RINOs who have the support of 'the party' who should be joining Chafee in circling the bowl while solid Conservatives are supported.
