(Sally) Field Has Another Memorable Award Speech
Washington Post ^ | Sept 1, 2007 | AP

LOS ANGELES -- Twenty-two years after her immortal Oscar speech, the Fox network really did NOT like Sally Field.

Accepting her Emmy on Sunday night for lead actress in a drama series ("Brothers and Sisters"), Field stumbled halfway through, lost her train of thought, screeched at the audience to stop applauding so she could finish talking _ and then was bleeped by Fox censors as she stammered through an anti-war rant.

"And, let's face it, if the mothers ruled the war, there would be no (expletive) wars in the first place," Field said, but Fox cut away for much of her comment.

Backstage, Field told reporters that she wanted to recognize mothers who wait for their sons to come home from war. She added, however, that she "didn't have a political agenda."

Told that she had been bleeped, Field responded: "Oh well. I've been there before. Well, good. I don't care. I have no comment other than, oh well. I said what I wanted to say. I wanted to pay homage to the mothers of the world, and let their work be seen and valued."

Pressed for more comment, she responded: "I think probably shouldn't have said the God in front of the ... I would have liked to have said more bleeped-out words."

I was amazed at how incoherent and filled with clueless and idiotic jokes the Emmys were tonight. They were really unwatchable - but I flipped through every so often to see the dresses. Tony Bennett sang a nice song- that was it.

When Sally came on, I stopped to see if she gave another idiotic speech. She didn't disappoint. She actually screamed "I'm not finished" after the music started and people started to applaud.

Then she made some stupid antiwar comment which Fox bleeped because it was profane. It was embarrassing to watch.

Tomorrow I bet everyone's going to be talking about how heroic Sally was to take on the war. Take it from me. She just sounded dumb.

Surely she can’t be talking about those peace-loving Mohammadan moms... y’know, the ones who strap bombs to their bodies and blow up our military and innocent Israeli civilians ?

Sally, you ignorant slut.

I heard the thing on Drudge’s show. It seemed like there was a perfect moment about a minute in when she paused, and if she’d have shut up right then, it would have been a very graceful and impressive acceptance speech. Then she just suddenly started ranting like a switch was flipped. Weird.

Condescending AND dishonest. She pulled a two-fer.

Maryam Mohammad Yousif Farhat, popularly known as Umm Nidal, "the mother of Nidal" or "the mother of struggle", is one of Hamas' most popular candidates elected in the Palestinian legislative election, 2006. She sent three of her six sons on Hamas suicide missions against Israel.

She attracted public attention after being filmed joyously preparing and advising her 17-year old son Muhammad Farhat for his March 2002 suicide attack against Israeli civilians. After infiltrating the Gaza Strip former Jewish settlement of Atzmona, opening fire on the students and throwing hand grenades at the school where they were studying, killing five teenagers and wounding 23 others, he was shot dead. Upon hearing of her son's death, she celebrated proclaiming "Allahu Akbar!" and giving out boxes of halva and chocolates.

Ugh, she obviously has never met my mother when she is pi$$ed-off. Her Korean temper would flare up and if there was a button she could push to make it all go away, she would have. I think if only moms ruled the world, we’d all be vaporized already. If I recall, Thatcher is a mother and she sent troops to the Fauklands (sic)....

If she really cared about children she wouldn’t be taking the Lord’s name in vain. Plus it never occurred to her that some children might be watching and their parents might not want them to hear swearing on TV?? What an idiot.

She and other peacenik lefties have always had that misguided ida that somehow war can be avoided if only all the world’s people could live as one, understand one another, blah blah blah. They are absolutely blind to the reality of the current world situation.

Can't any of them just shut up & do what they've been paid to do?
I don't want to listen to them & their opinions on stage.

Hope you wanna-be 'new' kids in town pay close attention.
Apparently some folks have forgotten how you starve to be where they are...

I recall that Golda Meir was prime minister of Israel during the Yom Kippur War, and she had two children. Indira Gandhi led India during its 1971 war with Pakistan, and also was a mother. Going further back in history, Elizabeth I of England and Catherine the Great of Russia were hardly pacifists during their rule.

But then again, history and experience mean nothing to a Hollywood has been and airhead like Sally Field.
