"Fear and Loathing in Des Moines?"

I bet Johnny Depp will pass but Del Toro might be up for it.

I suspect that HST was well into his “get good with God ephihany” well before he put three bullets into his brain. Perhaps that is why he had to be “eliminated”. Fear and lothing works at least three ways to the Sabbath.

Really, when he interviewed SlickWillie prior to ‘92 election he had nothing good to say about him -from outer jacket liner notes to his book on subject “...after the snake bites the old lady, he says to her- “yah knew I was a snake(skank) when yah picked me up.”

Given that HST had P.J. O’Rourgue as a running buddy, I suspect HST to be at least a libertarian if not a closet conservative - his drug-addiled brain/lifestyle not ignored.

I favor Thompson at present, Hunter, if we would have a Thopmpson-Hunter ticket, we may be grooming an excellent V.P. who could become the next president. Just a thought.

HST was friends with Pat Buchanan too.

Liberalism is the target. Ruby Julie-Annie is an authoritarian leftist.

Ask yourself: What is the world capitol city of the United Nations and liberalism?

Thompson is not playing the media’s game and every so-called “conservative” Madison Avenue limousine liberal like George “open borders” Will is having a fit he is running.

I support Tancredo, Hunter, and Thompson. I will most likely vote for Fred Thompson in the primary. Turning the general election into a second Democrat primary is just plain stupid...

Some of the Republicans are stuck on stupid. If the GOP gives me a liberal, I’ll write in “Bullwinkle.”

We have media provocateurs posing as “conservatives” who are really sleeper cells trying to cram liberalism and cross dressing liberal candidates down the throats of the GOP voting base.

For the past year, the so-called “conservative” commentators and columnists have been telling Republicans they need to compromise and nominate a liberal. Now all of the sudden Thompson isn’t conservative enough...

And these same media jackals who are supposedly “conservative,” are still trying to cram liberalism down our throats.

Also take note of who cried the loudest when Ann Coulter made the “faggot” remark at the CPAC event. Those so-called Republicans had to take a Midol to calm down. (They also need to be watched closely.)

Also, ask yourself: Where do the likes of George Will, Robert Novak, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Rielly, et. al; get their paychecks? Answer: the left wing New York media...

I’ve been reading Hunter Thompson since Jr High in the late 1960s.

This is one of the later HST screeds. Where you guys get the idea he was a closet conservative beats me....he did like guns though

That said I still enjoyed some of his work and thought him interesting in a Burroughs sort of way. Military school meeets Beat writer meets wacky mountain recluse.,,very dry wit too...the best kind

here’s his view on what he sees as right wing post 9-11....and the scorn he had for Nixon was legendary

(don’t believe the hype)

“We have become a Nazi monster in the eyes of the whole world — a nation of bullies and bastards who would rather kill than live peacefully. We are not just Whores for power and oil, but killer whores with hate and fear in our hearts. We are human scum, and that is how history will judge us. No redeeming social value. Just whores. Get out of our way, or we’ll kill you.”Well, sh*t on that dumbness, George W. Bush does not speak for me or my son or my mother or my friends or the people I respect in this world. We didn’t vote for these cheap, greedy little killers who speak for America today — and we will not vote for them again in 2002. Or 2004. Or ever. “Who does vote for these dishonest sh*theads? Who among us can be happy and proud of having all this innocent blood on our hands? Who are these swine? These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid rich kids like George Bush? “They are the same ones who wanted to have Muhammad Ali locked up for refusing to kill gooks. They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are the racists and hate mongers among us — they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis. “And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. F*ck them.””

re: Hunter Thompson attendance at GOP dinner

How strange..... I’m pretty sure that Hunter Thompson was not a conservative, and I’m also pretty sure that he’s dead.

Do you recall that Reagan shook up his own campaign staff, some of them top level, on more than a single occasion?

Thompson has plenty of substance and articulates it in a manner that is resonnating with voters.

Thompson can also defeat Hillary Clinton and win a national election. As good a man as Hunter is, he isn’t going to appeal to the middle as much as Fred will. And THAT’s how a national election is won.

This debate does sound interesting and I’ll probably watch particularly if it’s less than 9 seals being thrown fish.

Well, Fred is a little long in the tooth for VP. But if Lloyd Bentsen can do it, then he can too.

Hunter is my first choice but barring that, I like Thompson better than any of the others. I respect your local perspective, thanks.
