Virtual tie: Giuliani, Thompson, undecided [Florida poll]

Republican presidential candidates Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson and ''undecided'' are in a virtual tie among likely Florida Republican primary voters, according to a new poll released Thursday.

The new Mason-Dixon poll, based on 400 telephone interviews conducted Sept. 17-18, shows Giuliani at 24 percent and Thompson at 23 percent, with undecided voters at 22 percent.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percent.

Trailing are Mitt Romney at 13 percent and John McCain at 9 percent, followed by Mike Huckabee at 6 percent, and Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo at 1 percent.

The Florida Primary is scheduled for Jan. 29. As a result of the early primary date, the Republican National Committee says it will strip away half of Florida's delegates to the 2008 convention. The Democratic National Committee says it will take them all, meaning the Jan. 29 vote would not count at its national convention.

If Fred gets New Hampshire, and I won’t be surprised if he does, it’s all over.

Funny, I haven't read all that many "Thompson entered too late" posts lately...

That Romney quote is embarassing, and may do him a lot of harm.

I, too, am feeling a little better today, though I still think HRC is going to be our next...I won't type it.

Yep. Sure looks that way. It’s fun to watch McCain drop completely out of site.

I'm trying, I'm trying!

My hope is that people will gradually see Thompson on the tube and LIKE when he appears on their evening news--like his ideas, how he expresses them--and then have to see that uncomfortable, nasty and cold HRC in similar situations and think "Do I really want her on my TV set for the next 4-8 years?"

I’m a fredhead but what he heck is that queer looking costume he has on.

I’m terribly afraid someone is going to say its some sort of a vest for shotgunning. If thats the case then make it a nice manly orange, or tan or camo but none of this fashionable coloring stuff. I’ve been shooting plenty but none of the men I shot with dressed up silly like that.

Guiliani is a NYC liberal.

Retired northerners in FL FLED the NYC state of mind.

Guiliani’s only hopes in FL is the blue zones of the south and hope that the crossdressers of the I-4 corridor like NYC liberals.

Yeah, saw this poll yesterday. This is the best state polling unit so I would definitely say fortunes have turned in Fred’s favor in this state. Florida is very important and will probably determine the candidate. Both Rudy and Fred need it. Though if Romney’s lead in N.H. and Iowa disappears or there were an upset in S.C. that could change how important Florida seems now.

I lived there for a few years and while many fled the NYC state of mind quite a few more came for the weather, especially the 1/2 year crowd who is there in November.

They are still flaming liberals who just dillute the FL vote.
