Al Qaeda Targets Our Schoolchildren

While Democrats prepare witless campaign slogans blaming Republicans for millions of children not protected by health insurance, al Qaeda's blatant threat to exterminate 2 million American kids remains unheeded. And it will likely continue to be, notwithstanding mounting evidence that there exists no peril on Earth our young need greater protection from today than merciless jihadist monsters.

When I saw Beslan on TV I thought right away this is coming here. I never talked about it online as I did not want to take any chance of giving our enemies any ideas but it is plain they are planning this.

Just as 9-11 was a failure of imagination on "our" part, the next 9-11 will be the same...

SPC auction buyers aroused suspicion

College officials notified the FBI of men interested in buying surplus vehicles.

The two men who walked into Scott Weaver’s office trying to buy surplus vehicles wore T-shirts and jeans and were very polite.

One was 45 to 50, balding, spoke with a slight accent and introduced himself as a car dealer. He said his name was Abdalla, Weaver said. His companion seemed to be in his late 30s, had glasses, a full head of dark hair and said little or nothing.

The two men appeared to be Middle Eastern.

“They said they were interested in vehicles,” said Weaver, St. Petersburg College’s supervisor of institutional services. They didn’t say why.

While Abdalla Deiab didn’t buy the college’s surplus ambulance or three other vehicles, public records suggest he may have acquired a similar vehicle elsewhere.

A 1997 Navistar 4700 - commonly used as an ambulance or utility truck - was registered in April to Deiab’s former address on Shelley Street in Clearwater, according to state records. It is the same address he wrote on the bids he submitted to SPC for a used ambulance, two former police training cruisers and a large truck.

The Navistar was registered under Mintulla Inc., a defunct corporation. Deiab was not an officer in the company, but he did apply for a fictitious business name similar to Mintulla Inc. It was Mintulla International.

State records do not show who owned the Navistar before it was registered at Deiab’s Clearwater address or what it is used for now.

Deiab, 51, could not be reached for comment Friday.

SPC officials, Deiab’s former employer and two of his previous landlords said this week the FBI has questioned them about Deiab and the other men who visited SPC to look at surplus equipment.

College officials said an FBI agent mentioned a suspicion that the men might have associates with contacts to Al-Qaida.

An FBI spokeswoman won’t say if the agency is investigating.

Deiab lived in the condominium on Shelley Street for less than a year, said Panagiotis Thomaidis, who owns the unit. Fatima Bari also lists the condominium as her address on her Florida driver’s license.

Public records show Deiab and Bari, 43, were married in November 2001 in Volusia County. On their marriage record, Deiab listed his birthplace as Egypt. His wife, who could not be reached Friday, was born in Morocco.

In May, Deiab rented a place at the Coral Cove apartments at Belcher Road and Cleveland Street. He rented a ground-floor apartment for $545 a month, plus utilities.

At the end of June, the apartment complex sued to evict him, contending that he missed June’s payment. A process server could never find him to deliver the notice of the suit.

Deiab also has lived in Daytona Beach, where he was the residing manager at the Peter Pan Motel for four or five months, said former owner Basel Dasouki. He said he has not seen Deiab for about two years, since he sold the property. He said he neither has nor wants anything to do with Deiab.

After the motel closed, Deiab moved to a one-bedroom place in the Kingston Apartments, said owner and manager Glenn Atchana.

He said Deiab had a truck he used in a small moving company and paid the $425 monthly rent in cash for about a year until he suddenly moved out with no warning. Deiab still owes him money, Atchana said.

The FBI contacted him about a month ago asking about Deiab, Atchana said.

“He was poor,” he said. “He didn’t have a lot of money. He used to always ask me how he could get credit to go buy something.”

Deiab bid on SPC’s ambulance and other vehicles in a surplus equipment auction on Aug. 6. It was earlier that week that Weaver recalls the pair of Middle Eastern men coming to his office.

That same week, four men described by college officials as Middle Eastern went to the college’s warehouse in Tarpon Springs and took photos of surplus vehicles for sale, Weaver said. It was unclear whether Deiab was one of the four men.

The following week, Weaver and his staff began to wonder.

By then, officials realized Deiab had submitted the winning bids for four pieces of equipment.

College officials said staff members thought about the men’s appearance. They considered what they were bidding on. And they recalled seeing news about suspicions that terrorists might try to acquire ambulances. Around that time, New Jersey officials were worried that ambulances might be used to carry bombs.

Concerned, college officials contacted law enforcement.

The four men did not return to campus after the bid opening, Weaver said, but his staff talked to Deiab several times by phone about coming to pick up the vehicles. They also were talking to the FBI and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. At various times, Deiab told SPC staff he was out of town, Weaver said. Once, he said he was in Tallahassee at an auction. Another time, he said he was in Atlanta.

College officials made an appointment with Deiab to pick up the vehicles on Aug. 26. Before that meeting, FBI personnel installed what they said were tracking devices on each of the vehicles Deiab had bid on, Weaver said.

“I think their plans were to follow them,” he said.

But Deiab never showed up.

Nothing beyond Gods direct and persistent intervention would prevent the above corrected results should they ever again attack any other schools anywhere in the West.
