If you are a police officer, trooper, court officer, correction officer, telecommunicator, highway patrol, federal agent, or any other type of police (peace) officer either full-time, part-time or retired that has been disrespected or insulted by another police agency (officer) by not receiving some sort of professional courtesy, please email staff (at) copswritingcops.com with the information. If you have been arrested for a crime and want to use this as a podium to rant, go somewhere else.
This is a site for officers getting traffic tickets that ANY normal civilian could get a warning on, verbal or written. This is a site for cops, about cops, and designed by cops. Needless to say, we are fed up with hearing about this and think something should be done. There's always another ticket down the street. We are all family and maybe someday you may need one of us to get out of our car and save your sorry ass. But odds are you're the cop that doesn't do anything to begin with.
Our Mission
The new police generation is here and the "old timers" need to pass on the respect for the police. It goes without saying that the public needs to respect us, but we must also respect each other. We have the career that no one wants, unless it's on TV. We have to deal with...well...how do we say it politically...the shitheads! These are people that no one else wants to deal with, that's why they call us. We are 'suppose' to come and solve the problems. Of course most of the problems are social or political issues and no officer is going to be able solve them in one call, or even 60 minutes like on TV. So what does this have to do with this site. A LOT!! All we have sometimes is each other.
Our mission is to try and bond our community by bringing the stories of how our brothers and sisters are sometimes mistreated by other brothers and sisters.
Maybe after visiting this site and reading how much it really does affect other officers, you may think twice about giving that ticket.
It's ONLY A TICKET! We're positive that there is someone more deserving of your attention than your own brother or sister.
FAQ's
Are we above the law?
No.
If we commit a crime, should we be "let go"?
No. We need to go to jail. The public has faith in us (supposedly). If we break that faith we need to pay the price. One of our staffers is an IAD Sergeant. He has many stories of how cops try and "get by with one". He is a strong proponent of this site.
Should we be given breaks on tickets that normal people would be given a break?
Yes. Best Buy employees get an employee price (which is awesome), Subway employees get free subs, military people get free hops on planes, airline employees get the jet around the world for free ($50 is free). Every profession gets some kind of 'perk'.
Is it fair?
No, but when is life ever fair.
Notice something conspicuously missing here?
"We must also respect the public which we 'serve and protect'"
Agreed. By calling us “civilians”, these police officers are implying that they are of a different class of citizens than non-police. Civilians get ticketed when they violate the law; police officers (etc.) receive “professional courtesy”.
Think of all the little town and cities out there that have bad police and/or sheriffs. If you live in such a town, there is literally nothing you can do to escape them except move away. A corrupt small-town cop or sheriff is a law unto himself in many ways, especially if the local judges are “on the team”, and woe betide the person who gets on their bad side. Once a small-town cop has it in for you, he can make your life a living hell, and there is nothing you can do about it. With this in mind, I sometimes think it’s a shame that local PDs aren’t subject to federal oversight and licensure. If they were, Congress would be able to review their records on a yearly basis and pull the licenses of corrupt cop-shops based upon abuse complaints.
My home town is currently dealing with just that problem.
There’s a huge meth trade, and the county attorney is probably involved.
There’s a loose cannon alcoholic/addict there destroying my dad’s & sister’s property, and since he’s “one of them” they won’t touch him.
I’ve been looking for some suggestion about how to handle this, but I think you’re right - they’re a “law of their own”.
Bump for later
My advice is to hire a private investigator to dig up dirt on these guys, and a high-priced attorney from your state capital to tie them up in court. Use the one-two punch of personal pressure and legal hassles to drive the bad guys away. (It goes without saying that you should stay strictly within the law at all times while doing this, and that you should not do ANYTHING until you’ve discussed your prospective action with legal counsel.)
I’d also suggest contacting a newspaper reporter with your story, preferably one from the nearest big city paper.
Good luck! You’ll need it.
Thank you for posting this.
That is a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself.
No matter how bad the situation, it can always be made worse by adding a cop.
I would love it if they only showed up when you called them.
Its not just the cops themselves, I know wives who have had tickets fixed.
***That’s where it starts. The end is fascism.
I guess there is no problem here.
Congratulations on finding gainful employment.
I thought they were supposed to enforce all the laws.
Hence the moniker "Law Enforcement Officer".
A perfect driving record for a policeman is apparently different than from what is considered "perfect" for the rest of us.
LE are civilians. Never forget that.
Every road is a toll road now, and you don't have to pay the toll>
Aren't you special?
i love this site. hands down, the WORST are VA State Troopers. they actually stopped caravans of NYPD cars and buses who were on their way to and from new orleans to help with the katrina disaster and gave them a ton of guff.
when i drive through VA, i do one mile per hour UNDER the speed limit. cause if i get stopped, i'm gettin' one.
florida cops are pretty bad as well.
"Yes."
I would like to call you a Nazi over that comment, but I will refrain.
Way too much money for people who don't produce anything.
This jerk went through all the effort of setting up his babyish website to defend his own corruption. Did he ever think of SLOWING DOWN ON THE ROAD?
Don’t speed, you won’t get a ticket.
If he keeps his attitude problem, I don’t think he’ll be a cop very long. We’ll drive him right out of the job.
