“Once the Mexicans get the southwest back, the precedent will be set for the indian tribe that can dig up the oldest artifacts in that region to demand it be given back to them. Lets just call a crock a crock. Mexico lost, we won. Screw them.”
The Mexicans have gall if nothing else in their spurious claim to the US Southwest and California. Those territories were occupied by numerous American Indian tribes including: Comanche, Apache, Ute, Navajo, Hopi, and many others. I understand those tribes don’t think much of the Mexican claims of an ancient homeland.
They were so easily defeated in the Mexican war because they had so few Mexicans living in the vast territories.
I think it was Samuel Clemons who said politicians dream of being able to vote for their constituents - an idea totally beyond the pale back in his day. Now they're really doing it.
Again, most are U.S. citizens and there is no law stating that someone cannon celebrate their Hispanic heritage, African heritage or Irish heritage.
Only because of the misinterpretation of the 14th amendment regarding the children of illegal aliens.
For the last 120 years the SCOTUS has not areed with you on the 14th and simply, that is not going to change in either of our lifetimes.
The only option is to pass a Constitutional Amendment to revoke the 14th Amendment but that is not going to happen in my lifetime, your lifetime or the by the time your great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandchild draws their last breath.
Your comments show that you use the same tactics as the Reconquistas: cheap attempts to convince everyone else that "resistance is futile, we will overwhelm you" , the usual BS
So you're one of their sympathizers and haters of Americans.
Period. That's all.
And no, I don't buy your crap or theirs.
A Hispanic born in El Paso is no less American than an Anglo born in Atlanta.
Something your average Mexican can't seem to understand...
Hee hee!....no wonder they want it back! Of course if that happens...then who will they blame with their victim mentality....??
The Japanese made a big mistake with Pear Harbor underestimating the will and resolve of Americans to protect their country and way of life...and Mexicans are making the same mistake...the sleeping giant is awakening and you'd better be on the right side of that line....
Yes and no. I think we can be most things to all fair-minded people. However, you are correct that we cannot be all things to all people, Americans and Hispanics, particularly when so many Hispanics reject American culture and values and try to impose their culture and their values on Americans.
From the standpoint of tradition, America has traditionally been a nation of compromise in which immigrants were expected to meet our culture and values at least halfway and we would accommodate their culture and values to the extent that they could become part of the American fabric.
These principles served America and its immigrant population well for over 150 years and has broken down in the past 30 - 50 years as the result of our failure to enforce our immigration laws and national sovereignty. And, for that, I blame the Congress and the president, past and present.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Both of these situations are insane!
For the memory challenged Mr. Navarette, google “Operation Wetback”.
It worked then.
I can work now.
Addendum to Lil’ Navare, those who do not learn from history do repeat it. Again, try Googling “Santayana”.
THe only accurate statement in this piece. Why, O why is this "number" thing so difficult for our government and its precious "11 million illegals?"
If there are not 10 million illegals in California, alone,I'll by each of them a gd drink! In re the "44 million" the number by informed (i.e. non-governmental) sources is now over 65 Million, with at least 20 Million+ illegal.
The Latino component of our population will reach 30%. Just a question of time. Of course, down in old Aztlan, Latinos will be a majority; more than likely, an appreciable majority.
Think Navarrete is cocky now? Just wait a few more decades, pal. Our grandchildren will live in the northernmost outpost of Latin America. ?Hay algo aqui que no comprendes?
