Democrats go after Limbaugh
The Hill ^ | October 01, 2007 | Klaus Marre

Posted on 10/01/2007 1:29:57 PM PDT by vietvet67

Democrats on Monday called on the chief executive of Clear Channel Communications to denounce remarks by radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, whom they say made a “hateful” and “unpatriotic” attack on U.S. troops opposed to the war in Iraq.

At issue is a remark from Limbaugh that characterized such troops as “phony soldiers.” Democrats have seized on the issue, allowing them to hit back at Republicans who similarly latched onto a MoveOn.org ad that referred to Gen. David Petraeus as “General Betray Us.”

“Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaugh’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said in his letter to Clear Channel Chief Executive Mark Mays. “We trust you will agree that not a single one of our sons, daughters, neighbors and friends serving overseas is a ‘phony soldier.’ We call on you to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments.”

As Rush always says, give them a flaming bag of excrement and they will go out of their way to step in it.

To be fair with an Imus/Limbaugh referrence, Imus' statements didn't deserve for his firing, but what Imus said was NOT taken out of context.

What is being said of Rush's statement IS taken out of context.

What’s going to be funny is that Rush issued that out-and-out challenge for Dingey Harry to appear on his show, mano-a-mano. Reid’s too big a coward to appear - a little twerp who stands up and slanders a private citizen who has a radio show.

I hope the Freepers and Rush Babes and Dudes in the Silver State inundate Dingey’s inbox and email. Maybe send in emails of protest to local TV stations about Dingey’s slanders. Maybe an enterprising journalist would enjoy going after Skeletor the Sleazy more than Rush.

“Is Reid executing payback because of the defeat of his Amnesty bill?”

Just his feeble attempt to show the dems support the troops. They know that the NYT ad greatly hurt their anti war cause.

I’ve suggested he change his name to Harry Reemed.

A question for you Legal Eagles:

I f Rush can show just one small case of loosing a sponsor due to this fraud, isn’t this an open and shut case of defamation?

That would be great theater – suing Reed et al.

Who’s running the country while these nitwits listen to Rush?..Certainly not our elected officials. Where have you been?

I think he certainly has a case against Media Matters, for promulgating the fraud. This wouldn’t be the first time, and he doesn’t have to prove he even lost a sponsor. All he’d have to do is prove that he was slandered and libeled, and it was done with MALICE. Which, of course, it was.

Unfortunately, Tom Harkin and Harry Reid pretty much have immunity for anything they say within the confines of “debate” in the Senate.

Can someone tell me what state Harkin comes from?

Congress has never "run" the country as far as I know.

They just try to restrict freedom whenever and wherever they can.

This country would be better off if Congress took an extended recess.

Well, best way for me to screw the Democrats and support Rush is to renew my subscription. So I will.

I stand with the troops and Rush. Not the unpatriotic losers of the left that don’t have the guts to say this off the floor where they are given immunity. Really believe what you say? Say it to his face losers and risk a lawsuit.

This has to be one of the most petty and pathetic things the US Senate has ever taken up. It's like the institution is being run by a bunch of 5-year olds. Unfortunately for me I have to live in a state with both Durbin and Obama as it's Senators.
I couldn't agree more, but it does show how desperate the Dems really are.
BTW, I'm in NY state and you know who my two senators are: Chucky and the evil one. Arghhhhhhh

Maybe we all ought to do this, in a giant wave over the next week. Send a clear and loud message that this kind of smear campaign will lead to a great wave of support and new fans for RUSH.

<>I don't have a subscription, cause I listen during the day, and I'm cheap ! But this is a way to fight back, and I'm willing to part with a few dollars.

I suggest a poll - ask our heroes in uniform who they think disrespects them and who they think respects them. My money says it’s a landslide with the charlatans trying to make political hay of this on the “disrespect” side and Rush is on the “respect” side.

Well, well, been over on malkin’s site and apparently we now know why Harkin takes this so seriously. He, himself, is a “phony soldier”. He lied about being a ‘nam vet that flew missions during his political campaigns. No wonder he is standing up for the integrity of all of his other “phony soldiers”.

keep it up lunatics. Sure, you are using this for fundraising and to distract from your anti American and anti troops record, but your problem is that Rush’s show is not only NOT declining but will grow the longer he’s center of attention. Considering a lot of non conservatives tune into his show, you’re just setting it up to ediucate more people to what fools you are.

If you want to go after some damn RINO, I could care less. But I’ll defend Limbaugh until my dying breath over the likes of you.

Limbaugh owns the corporation he works for, unlike Imus, who talked on someone else’s mic.

Indeed. The only person who can fire Rush Limbaugh is Rush Limbaugh. I'm sure somebody told him a long time ago to set it up that way because he is such a lightning rod to the Left.

Clear Channel is the distributor and they pay him royally for his talent and his program but they have no control over content. The worst that could happen is Clear Channel could choose to drop his show, in which case another radio network will grab it in milliseconds and Clear Channel will be out a huge chunk of change, committing corporate suicide.

The Left is reduced to throwing spitballs at Limbaugh. They know it. They just figure they can demonize him to the idiot class and perhaps limit his effectiveness.

Last time they attacked Rush during the McNabb remarks and prescription pills, I updated my subscription. I find it’s the most useful way to keep him out there talking and driving the left nuts by exposing them. If he puts up new merchadize re: this, I’ll probably buy it. For right now I’m taking Malkin’s suggestions and buying the anti-moveon material they are trying to shut down.

Hillary and SOROS deserve nothing less then our contempt. As do their puppets at M.M. and Congress.

Other ways to support Rush are to contact your representatives, local media, Clear Channel and armed forces radio expressing your support for Rush. It’s no different then what we do to support a politician, only Rush is better then our politicians at standing for the troops and conservatism.

The drive-bys have picked up several large buckets of Soros’ water and have taken off running.

Lead on ABC radio:

“Tom Harkin denounces Rush Limbaugh for referring to troops who oppose the Iraq War as ‘phony soldiers.’”

They report the Soros Moonbat’s easily refutable accusations as fact. Absolutely stunning to see it in action, from the moment the innocuous phrase was uttered last week to the point where the entire focus of the Democratic Party (and thereby the United States Congress) is in mounting a personal attack lie & smear campaign against a private citizen.

I guess the Betray-Us ad wasn’t really such a good idea after all, was it, you political hacks?

I’m dating a girl who’s incredibly well educated and bright. She professes to be “independent” but is liberal to the core. She HATES the President. The problem trying to reason with her about politics is that she concedes with absolute candor that liberals lie and that the end does justify their means. You’d think that admission would cut your way in an argument (to me it’s an enormous indictment of the Left). When its conceded at the outset and viewed as okay, it’s nearly impossible to get any traction.
