Many Poorer Families Fear Presidential Veto Threatens Their Chidren's Health Care
Bush Vetoes Child Health Insurance Plan
"The rally was to let Bush know we need health insurance for our children," said Taylor, a Baltimore resident. "We wanted to let President Bush know we are real people. He said there would be no child left behind. Well, we're getting left behind unless he continues SCHIP."
Gathering on the White House lawn and the steps of Congress, the throngs were joined by children who pulled red wagons filled with over a million petitions, urging Congress to expand health insurance coverage for children.
Yet, it appears that the effort may be in vain after Bush vetoed a bill on Wednesday that would have renewed and expanded SCHIP.

when I get insurance I am getting glasses
The Demoncrats are starting EVERYTHING early this election season, aren’t they? Usually they don’t bring out the “Social Security and medicare are being threatened!” and “Poor people will starve or die from common diseases if you elect Republicans!” cards until about 6 weeks before the actual election!
I would like the MSM to show me where President Bush has canceled the ENTIRE SCHIP program—{crickets chirping}
This thing has been around for a decade. He asked for a certain amount of money and the demoncratically controlled congress sent back this overblown, porky bill that would give free insurance to ‘kids’ aged 25 coming from homes making over $80,000 a year—PULEEZE.

Fixed it.

Sounds like the Million Man March all over again.

Yes they are. Bush hates black people, poor people, and now he hates kids. All they need is a photo of him kicking a kitty or a puppy.
Like who would that be? Maybe they just shouldn't go to the dr. No, maybe they just shouldn't have kids. DAMN, I PAY FOR MY KIDS - YOU PAY FOR YOURS!!!!!
I think that it is appaling that the democrats are exploiting children for political gain. They have no shame.
“Yes they are. Bush hates black people, poor people, and now he hates kids. All they need is a photo of him kicking a kitty or a puppy.”
I’m sure the photo geniuses at al-Reuters are hard at work on that one as we speak.
The shadow of socialism and communism continues to proceed over the land. The Clintons, and their ilk, have been pitching this incremental government grab by clothing it in their appeals that it is 'for the childrun'...
I wish some politicians would stand up and state that we need to do things for the parents:
* Reduce taxes so both parents do not have to work.
* Open up school choice (and while we're at it, privatize the school system).
* Reduce the size of Government.
We are not a Nanny State...well... we are, but at least make some loud pronouncements that we aren't...
Anything that is claimed to be 'for the childrun' is treated like its sacrosanct. It isn't.
Good - this is looking like the veto will be sustained. The left isn’t going to be able to get “traction” on this, they are being far too exploitative and manipulative, even by MSM standards.
I would like to ask why the republican controlled Congress passed this huge expansion of government in the first place and how many illegal aliens are cashing in:
Wikipedia: The State Childrens Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) is a national program in the United States which provides health insurance for families who earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid, yet cannot afford to buy private insurance.
The program was created to address the growing number of children in the United States without health insurance.
At its creation in 1997, SCHIP was the largest expansion of health insurance coverage for children in the United States since Medicaid began in the 1960s.
Did you read THIS one.....
>>My husband and I both work 50+ hrs per week. We pay our bills and provide for our children. We do have minimal insurance. But, to pay our co-pays on the kids Dr’s visits and meds would put us on the street if it wasn’t for SCHIP. We have a child with spina bifida d 2 with ADHD. We do the best we can but there are times everyone needs a bit of help. And helping our children stay healthy should be every one’s first priority, as well as education. We will spend billions on everything but the future leaders of our country. Think about it, they will one day have our futures in there hands. Why would you want to hinder theirs? And if you are only worried about taxes going up, what difference does it really make? They aren’t coming down any time soon. SO MAKE THEM COUNT FOR SOMTHING POSITIVE....<<
It passed with many repubs because they are GUTLESS and afraid of the dems and the media they control. When all this first started, either the house or senate (not sure which) had only FIVE republican votes. A few weeks after the 24/7 sick kids ads with the children talking, they had enough republicans to pass it. The Dems have POSTPONED the veto override vote for TWO WEEKS-during which time the kids ads drumbeat will continue. They think they can get the votes necessary-what do they need. eleven now?
The Families USA outfit, the ones who want us to pay for children’s health insurance, continue to be a good font of information. Here’s a better list of the congresspeople and Senators, tells you where they’re from, etc.
Boren of Oklahoma, a Republican who had previously voted against SCHIP, has already caved in, now says he’ll vote for it.
We may be a minority. But if we don’t contact our congressional people, they’ll think we don’t exist at all.

Should have added “As long as those taxes are stolen from those filthy smokers and not the rest of us.”
Children dying in the streets.
