Springsteen: Silence Is Unpatriotic
CBS ^ | October 7, 2007

Posted on 10/08/2007 7:24:26 PM PDT by ConservativeStatement

(CBS) It's hard to picture, but Bruce Springsteen turned 58 last month. His breakout hit, "Born to Run," is 32 years old. While rock stars his age are content to tour with their greatest hits, Springsteen launched, last week, what may become his most controversial work as a songwriter.

Even now, Springsteen is an artist in progress, having moved from stories about girls and cars to populist ballads that echo the dust bowl days of Woody Guthrie. Springsteen has put all that together now in his first tour with the E Street Band in four years. As correspondent Scott Pelley reports, he has returned to full-throated rock and roll, and a message that's sharper than ever, damning the war in Iraq, and questioning whether America has lost its way at home.

I’ve no problem hating him now.

Couldn’t stand him before. Cats in heat carry a better tune.

Even before he shilled for sKerry, he was a fake “working man” balladeer. Another phony liberal cloistered in his fortress mansion doling out platitudes and looking down on us little people.

You are a disappontment, Brucie, and your albums are no more than inferior flying discs anymore.

Born to run, born to surrender - a disgrace to New Jersey.

Yeah, it just sucks that Iraq has gone from the bottom of ranking of political freedom in the M.E. to 4th place in political freedom.

You can thank GWB you frikin' a-hole! I guess Iraqis don't deserve non-state sponsored frikin' TV and the Internet, cell phoes, and the FREE Frikin' PRESS! Like you HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!! Jackass!

Here's hoping a young, buff, fit, Marine kicks your little dictator totalitarian loving butt!

""I'm interested in what it means to live in America. I'm interested in the kind of country that we live in and leave our kids. I'm interested in trying to define what that country is. I got the chutzpa or whatever you want to say to believe that if I write a really good about it, it's going to make a difference."

Its called hubris sir, and unfortunately your hubris is not coupled with any wit, intelligence or judgment.

Why isn’t this guy’s patriotic dissent being crushed? Things just aren’t the same since the Magnificent Bastard left the scene.

He believes that Woody Guthrie / John Steinbeck nonsense about evil capitalists and angelic working man.

Springsteen is another millionaire who wants to destroy the middle class and have two classes: the workers and the ... enlightened leaders. Of course, enlightened leaders are all millionaires who won’t have to stand in line while their children die waiting for treatment.

Edward’s two Americas are the lower and middle classes. He too wants to abolish the middle class.

What a bunch of awful human beings and stupid to boot. Their taxes to pay for this will cripple the country.

China will invade Taiwan as soon as Hillary takes “command.” She and the Dims are too weak to do anything. Plus, Hillary has been bribed by the Communists.

I tend to agree. I'm not sure if he can do any worse than the execrable "Streets of Philadelphia." On the other hand, "Pink Cadillac" and "I'm On Fire" are pretty good songs, even better when covered by someone other than Bruce.

I saw part of this interview. Politics aside, I don’t like his music and never did. Anyway, at one point the interviewer mentioned that Springsteen’s fans (cue: audience file footage) know all the lyrics to his songs. Geesh, ya think? I guess that doesn’t hold to any other musician or rock and roller.

Bruce has lost his way.
He has become just another no nothing liberal, striving for relevance.
He’s a phony
And that’s coming from a former huge fan of his..

See my post #14. Bruce generally sucks, but even he gets something right once in while.

The guy wrote a song that empathizes with suicide bombers.

Sad. I enjoyed his music growing up. Quite the poet.

Now, a rich moron who screwed around on his wife with the girl that plays the tamborine.

57 channels and nothing on - indeed.

I’m not a fan of his but “Pink Cadillac” and “Hungry Heart” are two songs I can appreciate when I hear them on FM. Anything else, the channel gets switched. I went to college with many Jersey kids and when they had Springsteen cranked, I put AC/DC a notch louder. :-)
