Scientist Suspended for Race Remarks Also Discussed 'Defective' Children
Cybercast News ^ | 10-19-07 | Patrick Goodenough

Noting that some abnormalities are not discovered until after birth, he suggested that a baby should not be considered legally alive immediately on being born.

"If a child were not declared alive until three days after birth, then all parents could be allowed the choice that only a few are given under the present system," he said. "The doctor could allow the child to die if the parents so chose and save a lot of misery and suffering."

This guy is just a treasure trove of offensive one-liners. He should get a cable show.

But wait, isn't he a Nobel Laureate? They should rename it "Your Great Learning Has Made You Insane" Prize.

As for the remarks, that's where science will take you every time, when you believe you're an animal.

Apparently, “defects” don’t show up in some people until they’re 79.

He’d have fit in well with some of Hitler’s scientist, and he’s living proof that superior cognitive ability, higher learning, and academic success may not stop someone from being ideologically evil. A fine mind may not always produce morals and manners.

Why the 3 day cutoff? Lets say your kid gets some disease when she’s 3 years. It would save a lot of money if we could just kill her.

He's not saying anything that the head of ethics at Princeton (Peter Singer) hasn't already said. Notice it took the racial remarks to get him canned, not the "let babies, (whom he deems defective), die" remarks.

Both men are "defective" by my standards.

I really do NOT understand what alllll this fuss is about. This man is clearly defining what was supremely made LAW to be taught in evolutionary biology classes.

Of course there will be many a sneering to be heard trying to HIDE what that system or also know scientific methodology created by the most fit to survive. See the deal is the ‘most fit’ gets the first welfare hand out, thus they are willing to pass out for those who through the evolutionary process did not quite get what they got, their welfare penitence.

His views are the logical conclusion of evolutionists; just that he is willing to say it out loud.

To a Demoncrat this should be an acceptable position. Abortion-on-demand, euthanasia, infanticide. Just one more peg in their Culture-of-Death advocacy.

Agreed. Survival of the fittest, right? If we are only machines, without a soul, why keep a defective one around?

"an unthinkable catastrophe -- a human being born flawed, perhaps unimaginably so, owing to our manipulation of his or her genes."

But, he went on to say, even if some lives are put at risk at the start of the experimentation, "we should give serious consideration to germ-line gene therapy."

Liberals and their ends justifies the means, all morals are relative, there is no God, way of thinking has killed millions of people throughout history. Liberals' way of thinking has killed more people than Watson could ever hope to save.

BUT BUT BUT the abortion crowd says it has NOTHING to do with eugenics to weed out “defectives”.

"The doctor could allow the child to die if the parents so chose and save a lot of misery and suffering."

Interesting choice of words to skate around that whole murder thing.

How does he propose that this actually be done?

Why 3 years old?
There are a bunch of abnormalities that don’t show up until later.
Why not 30? Yeah, I like that.

We will declare liberalism a disease and then just hang everyone promoting such views.
Never thought of that consequence?

It is a poor weapon that doesn’t point both ways

I see the strange case of Mssr. Watson verifying the actual laws of social darwinism functioning as they should in a technological society. Social darwinism as originally envisioned by its fascist oligarchical plutocrat gangsters was to be the sandbox of ectomorph foxhole hoppers. This emphatically Conan point of view impaled itself upon a technologically literate society in which the media of communication are now the actual battlegrounds in the “war of interpretive frameworks”. Mssrs. Conan and Watson are moving their pieces on a new gameboard in which interpersonal and communicative stupidity is a terminal condition. Tune in to Jerry Springer to see the new extinct species.

Watson's right in the mainstream of modern bioethicists on the infanticide issue. That opinion will earn him plaudits amongst the lefties. But he made the mistake of not keeping his non-PC opinions to himself on race and IQ.
