LA Times ^ | 9:35 AM PDT, October 21, 2007 | Associated Press

UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.

A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

I was told by a Fellow Freeper to look at the keywords for this thread "albabysfault" That someone here seems to think that I started these fires. Which is B.S. Most of you may know I have a heck of a sense of humor. Having said that I find it in very poor taste and maybe a tad slanderous I have my strong Suspicions on who did it
I also believe that keywords are tied to poster screen names
So I will ping this to management for review. And to that Freeper or Freepette to come forward and fess up a simple apology would suffice and perhaps you should look at whats going on in your life that ain't; working out to well and deal with that
Respectfully

Al baby

An illegal arrested as a looter at the Jamul fire:

This afternoon the Border Patrol stopped a man walking in the Jamul Area carrying a backpack. Upon further investigation they found the man to be in possession of a woman’s' purse which was filled with costume jewelry. The man was identified through fingerprints as Pedro Cervantes, a Mexican citizen. It was also discovered that Cervantes had a felony warrant out of Riverside county. [pdf file] Cervantes was arrested for the felony narcotics warrant and looting. Cervantes is currently being held in the San Diego County Central Jail.

Other arrests for looting:

On October 24, 2007, at 5:04 p.m., Campo deputies arrested two subjects for looting on the U.S. side of Tecate. The suspects were observed leaving a burned out residence carrying a large bag. Deputy Nunez tracked the suspects towards the Mexican border [pdf file] and captured both suspects with help from Border Patrol agents. All property taken was recovered and the suspects were booked into the San Diego County jail on looting charges.

L.E.—I pinged those people because 1) I mentioned them, 2) they know much more about the subject than I do and 3) they are a wonderful source of information—folks that I have learned a lot from them over the years. I see a couple have already provided some informative links.

I’m sorry if you see that as “piling on.”

And, then, there’s the six illegals that were arrested (then deported) for stealing supplies that were intended for the evacuees at Qualcomm Stadium:

If it were a citizen stealing from people who lost everything in those fires, they would be in jail for a long, long time. The ‘invaders’ will just come back accross the border and steal again. (Or, whatever else they decide to do in our country.)

I imagine most, if not all, are in full agreement. Hopefully, it was meant as a joke, tasteless as it was.

Thanks for the links, brityank. The first one is so indicative of the destructive nature of the current “environmentalist” movement. I have learned a lot from reading many old threads keyworded as “property rights” but had never seen that one.

Nine Fires Still Burning
Updated: Friday, October 26, 2007 10:20 AM EST

*************************EXCERPT****************************

Despite the hard work of firefighters, nine fires continue to burn across Southern California. The current largest blaze is the Witch Fire, which has charred nearly 200,000 acres. As of late Thursday, firefighters had this fire 30 percent contained. To further illustrate the magnitude of the Witch Fire, the blaze has been responsible for two-fifths of the acres burned throughout Southern California in recent days. The nine ongoing and 14 contained fires have charred a combined 472,478 acres, which is roughly three-quarters the size of Rhode Island. According to CNN.com, the deaths of 14 people have also been attributed to the fires.

Story by AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Kristina Baker.
