UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

So far in Eagle Rock we have only had mild breezes.We could see smoke off in the distance, probably around the Castaic area,but not even a smoke smell yet here.

I’m doing fine, bd. Take care! You’re getting smoke because the wind is running out of the NE. If it stills or changes back, the smoke will head my way. But I don’t live near any thing.. burnable, really. Open desert for me.

No. county scanner - units converging at Bouquet & Spunky Canyons to try and evacuate some trailer park residents. Sounds like dispatch has all units on an open patch. Too much info flying around for breaks?
They're doing a great job updating the fire- storm information. This is incredibly sad.

Praying for those in this area. Hoping the winds die down and the safety of the FFs fighting these fires.
Hot gasses rise. Heat radiates everywhere equally. That's why it may cost more to heat an upper storey in cold weather than the floor beneath it.

I thought the winds would slow down by now but we’re still getting some strong gusts here. It’s actually getting darker here, gray and brown. My friend in Santa Clarita said that it looks like night time looking North.
About 15 minutes ago, I was looking out my study window and noticed it was very hazy. Went outside and could see smoky skies to the north east of our home (Tustin Foothills)—which is the direction from which we usually see fires heading in our direction. It appears what I was seeing is from the Fontana/Devore area. The winds around here have been fierce.
What’s happening in Malibu is far worse. Very sad for everyone living there. In our case, we’ll take the smoke but would just as soon pass on the flames.
What a day. And I just saw someone on TV saying that the general weather conditions could last as long as Thursday. Lets hope not.
Maybe chaparral repeatedly and fiercely burns as part of its natural life cycle over the last several million years, and people have chosen to live in it in the last few hundred years.
OH it will arrive sooner or later, bd. We will probably wake up to the smoke and smell in the morning!
Prayers extended for the civilian who died in the fire and for the injured firefighters. Prayers continuing for all firefighters.
