The Postal Service announced the new 2007 Christmas stamp "The Madonna of the Carnation" for Catholics. Also, the USPS came out with the Christmas stamps commemorating the Muslim holiday of EID (Sep 28). Plus, USPS will release stamps recognizing Kwanzaa and Hanukkah (Oct 26). And for those in the "none of the above" category, the Holiday Knits stamps series will be available as of today.
I commend the Postal Service for its political correctness. However, as a Christian that believes in Jesus Christ, where is the Christmas stamp to represent the Christian belief?
Has our country moved so far away from its Christian foundation that we must now ask "where is our representation"?

Odd. I heard it was set when it was to offset the Pagan celebration, much as Hanukkah became a big deal so Jewish kids wouldn’t feel left out during the Christmas season.
I was making a more general statement, not specifically referring to the stamp with Mary and Jesus. I apologize that I didn’t make my statement more clear.
Entirely agreed. I think I got caught up in a conversation that's just a bit absurd to begin with.
Post offices all over the country would be down to their last stock on hand and it'd be Roosevelt stamps the locals wouldn't touch because, as they said "They'd not kiss Roosevelt's a**".

There are a LOT of revisionist theories about why Constantine chose the dates he did. I suspect that the main reason he chose them was because people were partying on those dates anyway so there was no need to disrupt their lives.
As far as I know Mary with the child Jesus is Biblical. She was present at his birth and since it is a Christmas stamp then it is very appropriate.
I don’t know about you but when I read the Christmas story, Mary and Joseph are always present.

There are only four days it ‘makes sense’ to have holidays anyway. Two solstices, and two equinoxes...

I think it’s probably the “Madonna of the INcarnation”, which, or course, means Jesus taking human form. The stamps always show classical paintings of Mary with Jesus sitting on her lap, so Jesus IS there, but He’s shown as an infant, which he WAS at Christmas.
Don’t be silly! It’s at a half way point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox for a reason!
It's pretty subtle - and not a very big deal - but you don't hear Protestants using the term Madonna much. They'd be more likely to title the same work of art "Jesus and Mary" or something like that. Subtle and minor, and moot, since it turns out the painting in question predates the Reformation.
Oops! I’m wrong, it IS the “Madonna of the Carnation”. Jesus is holding a single flower in His hand. I didn’t see it at first, because it background is dark, and the flower doesn’t stand out against it that much. Maybe the painter got the idea from Leonardo da Vinci’s “Madonna with the Carnation”.

I think the original poster is concerned that the only Christian/Christmas stamp the last few years has been in the “Icon” style (Orthodox/Catholic style). I tend to agree...that being said you have more options now to make your own or use designs by other Christians. See:

No, I don’t think any freepers or Christians are being slighted. I’m thinking that some freepers lack education or are themselves bigoted and would slight other freepers with their uneducated perceptions.

While I think Kwanzaa is ridiculous I feel that people have every right to celebrate the holidays that they want to celebrate.
Jesus revered her; don't see why WE shouldn't.
